James Kerestes Date: October 8th Time: 6PM

Location: Holmes or the small room for talks near Deans office.

Cost: Free

Sponsored by: Expanded Media

James F. Kerestes is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at Ball State University and the founder of blok+WERK studio, an interdisciplinary research lab in the field of architecture and design. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Architecture degree from Pratt Institute. He has taught digital media and emergent technologies at Pratt Institute, Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania.

From 2013 through 2015, James was selected as the Design Innovation Fellow within the Department of Architecture at Ball State University. In addition to academia, James is a registered architect in the state of Pennsylvania where he worked at various architecture firms in the Philadelphia area.

His current research focuses on the abandonment of typological obligations in favor of formations generated through computational design processes. This emphasis does not look at buildings as reducible to part-to-whole relationships, but rather as object to object and object to itself relations.

Drawing on design communication, digital fabrication, graphic design and material research, James teaches graduate and undergraduate studios and seminars rooted in the rigorous exploration of design inquiry.

New York State Sexual Harassment Policy

(8)

In August 2018, Governor Cuomo signed into law the "2019 Budget Act", which enacted several key initiatives that addressed sexual harassment in the workplace. These laws make training mandatory on a yearly basis for all employees.

October 9, 2019 is the deadline for all employees to be trained. All Alfred University employees should have completed their trainings through United Educators by this date.

The University had adopted a new policy as a result of these new laws as advised by New York State.

The new policy can be found by visiting https://my.alfred.edu/hum... there is also a complaint form for reporting sexual harassment available to employees, which can be found by visiting

https://my.alfred.edu/hum.... This policy will be in addition to our already existing Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy located at https://my.alfred.edu/stu....

For more information as it relates to these new laws please visit https://www.ny.gov/combat...

For additional training, please view these two YouTube videos released from NYS Department of Labor.
