REVIEW OF THE RELATED THEORIES
Definition of Translation
Meanwhile, something that needs to be transferred is meaning in the source language, which is represented by the word "thought" (hearty), message (Nida, Newmark) from source language (SL) to target language (TL). Moreover, Rochayah Machali added that underlining the term means equivalence as it is the meaning that is transferred in the target language.
Translation Method
As mentioned by Newmark above, it is beneficial to simply be informed about the mechanics of the text, but for a real translation process this kind of method is rarely used. In this method Newmark describes that in this method the precise contextual meaning of the original is reproduced within the constraints of. Although the meaning of the sentence is faith in SL, but it sounds abnormal in TL.
According to Newmark, semantic translation takes more into account the aesthetic value (that is, the beautiful and natural sound) of the SL text, which compromises on appropriate meaning in TL.12 This method is more flexible than faithful translation, which is uncompromising and dogmatic . As said by Newmark that free translation is to reproduce the matter or the content without the manner or the form of the original. It tends to be a paraphrase of the original, a so-called 'intralingual translation', often prolix and pretentious and not translation at all.16 Several experts believe that the result of this method is not translation creation.
The concept of Communicative Method
In contrast, communicative translation focuses on the message and the essence of the power of the text, is simple, clear and concise, and is always written in a natural and inventive style. Some features of the communication method make it difficult for a teacher who is not a native speaker and does not pay much attention to the second language to teach effectively. Communicative translations propose communication in translated messages within a certain cultural-linguistic system, with all the relevant consequences for the decomposition of the original message, the establishment of an invariant, its transfer across the cultural-linguistic border and the recomposition of the target. message.
He argues that communicative translation is communication in translated messages within a given cultural linguistic system, with all relevant consequences for the decomposition of the source message, the formation of the invariant, its transmission across the cultural-linguistic boundary and the reassembly of the target. message. Toury eventually accommodated the communication problem by bypassing it altogether: he shifted the emphasis from examining the equivalence between the translation and the foreign text and focused instead on the acceptability of the translation in the target culture. Change the words and structure that were cliff with the smoother and remove some of the sentences that are unclear.
The Features of Communicative Translation
May be better than original due to gain in power and clarity, despite loss of semantic content.
The Communicative Value
The translator has the right to correct and improve the logic and style of the original, clarify ambiguities, jargons, normalize bizarre personal usage. The text must achieve a communicative value that reflects situational requirements as well as semantic and textual requirements. The communicative value of a translation represents a selection from the global meaning of the source text. The communicative value of the L2 text is dependent on the cognitive set of the L2 reader.
The textual meaning of the source text, the prototypical superstructure of the target text, and the reader's cognitive set can all help the translator make the best choice. This retraction and modification is something they do in the interest of the reader. If the translator is not willing to do this, then he or she lets the microstructural development of the L2 text guide the translation process.27.
Theoretical Framework and Paradigm
- Paradigm
- Hypothesis Formulation
27 Based on the description above, the researcher assumes that the student's translation ability can understand what the meaning is in the functional text. Therefore, there is any positive and significant impact of using the communicative translation method on the translation learning result of PBI STAIN METRO in the academic year 2015/2016. 28 Based on the above paradigm that show if by using, the communicative method is high and the student's translation score is high, then there is any positive and significant impact from the use of communicative translation method to the student's translation score of PBI STAIN METRO in the academic year 2015. /2016.
In addition, if using the communicative translation method is low and the students' translation score is low, that means there is no positive and significant influence of the communicative translation method on the students' translation score of PBI STAIN METRO in the academic year 2015/2016. In the 2015/2016 academic year, there is a positive and significant influence of the communication method of translation on the translation result of PBI STAIN METRO students. In the 2015/2016 academic year, there is no positive and significant influence of the communication method of translation on the translation result of PBI STAIN METRO students.
Research Design
Population and Sampling Technique
- Sample
- Sampling Technique
A sample is a subset of a population.4 A sample is a small group that we observe.5 The sample of this research was 30 students of PBI STAIN METRO. Cluster Sampling is the act of determining samples based on a population group that has the same characteristic. 6. This research was conducted in the fifth semester of PBI STAIN Metro in the academic year 2015/2016.
The Operational Definition of Variables
Based on table of frequency distribution in table 12 above, communicative method can be deduced that 50%. If we interpret it based on the table above, it can be deduced that there is a large influence between the communicative method and Translation result among the students at PBI STAIN METRO in the academic year 2015/2016. There is a positive and significant influence between Communicative Method and Translation Result among the students at PBI STAIN METRO in the academic year 2015/2016.
There is no positive and significant influence between the communicative method and the translation result among the students of PBI STAIN METRO in the academic year. It means that there is a positive influence of the use of the communicative method on the translation result of students of the English education program of STAIN METRO in the academic year 2015/2016. Based on the result of the research, the communicative method has an influence on the translation result of the STAIN METRO English education course in the academic year 2015/2016.
Data Collecting Method
Research Instrument
The instruments used for the documentation method are books, journals, notes, data from the Internet and others. The first test is the translation of a sentence and the second test is also the translation using the communicative translation method. Instrument calibration is the scale of measurement which will be used to establish the standard of the instrument to be used. 11.
36 errors; there is no error in structure deviation; there is no confusion of term usage. There is a rigid literal translation, but relatively no more than 15% from the total text, so it is not felt so much in translation. There are one or two expressions that are not permanent/not general and/or unclear.
Data Analysis Technique
Creswell asserts that triangulation is to examine evidence from several different sources of information data and use them to build a well-organized justification for topics.14 Consequently, the researcher will collect some necessary data based on time, place, theory, research method. from several sources such as primary data and secondary data. Because the characteristic of each translation is relative, validity is classified into two aspects, namely content validity and face validity. The first basic criterion for translation evaluation is that the error of referential meaning is not allowed.
For example, the word(s) that the translator conveys in TL are not appropriate to the writer's intention. The other criteria are the equivalent accuracy (linguistics, semantics and pragmatics), proper expression in TT and term.
RESULT OF THE RESEARCH
- Research Data
- Hypothesis Testing
- Interpretations
- Limitations
The communicative method in this study is to measure the level of the student's translation ability, the researcher will issue the translation in writing to know the student's communicative method. 48 Based on the frequency distribution table above, it can be deduced from the communicative method that 1 students if the students > 85 in the high category, then 13 of the students 66-84 in the fair category, then 16 of the students 65-0 in the low category . category. Based on the frequency distribution table above, it can be deduced from the communicative method that 5.77% of students are the students > 85 in high category, then 17.36% of students 66-84 are in fair category, then 26.82% of the students 65-0 in low category.
From the result of the test, we know that there are different scores of the students. There are some students who have difficulty understanding and properly practicing the words in the communicative method. Therefore, the students have to study hard to increase the communicative method to also achieve good translation skills, especially in the functional text forms.
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
Suggestion
In this part the researcher tries to elaborate the researcher's opinion related to the research done. The students should have a good understanding in translation methods so that they can smartly analyze the appropriate point of view change in their translation. No distorted meaning, no more than 15% error of literal translation, no more than 15% error of idioms from the source text, use of unusual terms, spelling error.
Not natural, no more than 25% of literal translation, no more than 25% errors in idioms and structures, using uncommon expressions. Definitely not natural, more than 25% of literal translation, distorted meaning and use of inappropriate terms revive more than 25% of the source text.
