When the gross caries removal procedure is used, all the carious dentin is removed except that which is likely to expose the pulp. Therefore, another part of the formula necessary for the production of caries, i.e., the substrate, has been omitted. An important role in the use of the gross caries removal procedure is in the overall management of a rampant caries case.
We currently have six representatives of SV in the first and second year of postgraduate studies. The rest of the students plan to enroll in general practice or one of the specialty areas. This new facility gives the University of Pennsylvania one of the largest and best equipped dental clinics in the country.

Davidson and Phillips Receive Honorary
Two years ago, the United States Public Health Service began a program to award research grants to dental and medical schools based on a formula that uses research support received by the dental school from all sources. It helps to fund research projects by young individuals who have not applied for research support from industry or any government agency, to purchase research equipment, and to encourage small but often important research projects by students and faculty. This shows that the scope of research in our Faculty of Dentistry is excellent; we believe we can also prove that the quality of our research is also exceptional.
A further assessment of the activities of our research program can be obtained by reviewing the research papers presented each year at the largest dental research meeting, the International Association for Dental Research. This year, the professors of only one other dental school present more contributions than Indiana University.

A comparative study was conducted into the fit of certain dental casting alloys, investments and techniques. The majority of these were in the apical parts of the roots, but 8 were significantly more coronal. Neither age nor periodontal disease could be consistently correlated with pulp status.
These experiments did not indicate that any material is superior to the others in all the properties tested. The total movement of the tips of the incisors decreased with a decrease in the level of the moment. Microscopically, there was no evidence in any of the monkeys of inflammation in the pulp or periodontal membrane of those teeth that had been moved orthodontically.
Depressive forces distributed by the base arch caused shortening of the incisor tips in each animal. No effect of drugs or surgical procedures on periapical structures was observed about eight formocresol and. Removal of individual vitamins had no apparent effect on cell growth under the experimental conditions.

Jerry practices two days a week and is treasurer of the Texas State Dental Hygients' Association. We were saddened to hear about twin Matthew's death from an undisclosed cause. Many of the members of the class attended the banquet held in the Union Building on Friday night and then traveled together to the football game on Saturday. Twenty-eight members of the class and their wives attended this banquet. TED LILLY, of Dayton, Ohio, became the first out-of-state member of the Board of Directors.

The purpose of this preliminary project was to attempt a pharmacological treatment of painful pulpitis, to evaluate the therapeutic effects of a corticoid-antibiotic mixture as a means of limitation, and to provide limited histopathological correlation with clinical observations. We followed careful, controlled procedures of diagnosis, treatment and re-examination and accurate recording of all data. In addition, one patient with 4 normal, asymptomatic, surgically exposed teeth received the same therapy.
All teeth treated with corticoid antibiotics were vital, subjectively asymptomatic and showed no progressive or newly developing pathosis. The blank control treated teeth show a treatment success of 55.5% if based on all teeth, or 52.0% if based on painful pulpitis cases only. Histopathological observations support the clinical results, with the drug-covered pulp showing less inflammatory involvement.
It appears that painful pulpitis may be reversible, that corticoid-antibiotic mixtures may be of therapeutic value, and that histopathological observations tend to support the clinical results.
