NEW HORIZONS FOR ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY AND HOSPITAL DENTISTRY IUSD's Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Hospital Dentistry has experienced a renaissance with new multi-talented faculty and leadership, innovative procedures and updated dental school facilities. John is a leader in IUSD's ongoing commitment to providing a humanistic, inclusive, and interprofessional learning environment for all students. John has served as Chair of IUSD's Department of Periodontics (formerly Periodontics and Allied Dental Programs) since 2008.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY

The Indiana University International Dentist Program integrates dentists trained outside the United States in the second semester of the second year of the DDS program to prepare for licensure in the United States.

2021 GRADUATION HONORS AND AWARDS

WHITE COAT

After waiting two years, members of the Class of 2023 eagerly accepted their white coats in August. It is the beginning of a new day for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) and Hospital Dentistry at IUSD. Integrating decades of surgical expertise with the latest and innovative technologies, this new team of internationally recognized faculty is driven to deliver comprehensive and state-of-the-art patient care and training to residents.

Shaun Matthews, BDS, FDS, MBBS, FRCS (OMFS)

Matthews specializes in the surgical management of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ/jaw joint), pathology, orthognathic surgery and the correction of jaw trauma. He has worked in academic institutions on both sides of the Atlantic, including Charing Cross Hospital and King's College Hospital in London and the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. Polido received his DDS as well as masters and doctorates in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas/Parkland Hospital. Polido is a fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and the International Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the AAOMS and the AO-CMF. Brown received his DDS degree with honors from Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C., and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville.
