An assessment of green economy in Central Java Province, Indonesia:
Conformity and transformation
(Article)Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Diponegoro University, Jalan Prof. Soedarto SH, Tembalang Campus, Semarang, 50275, Indonesia
Abstract
This paper assesses the environmental performance of land-based economic sectors of Central Java, Indonesia. An assessment framework is designed and applied to two Districts: Banyumas and Purbalingga. It consists of two main elements, namely: (a) an assessment between the medium term development plans of the two districts in terms of their consistency with green economy ideas and (b) an assessment of the transformation phase (from research to the real green investment) that has been achieved by each district. Results show that development actors in the regions have a strong aspiration for 'welfare and justice' as the ultimate goal of development. However, their visions overlook one of the main objectives of the green economy, which is associated to the notion of 'environmental protection and climate stabilisation'. This assessment also suggests that research and advocacy have been limited which may prevent effective transformation towards a green economy in both districts. Finally, some forms of research and advocacy on green economy are proposed. © Copyright 2017 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Title: Do socio-psychological factors influence households' willingness-to-pay for improved solid waste management services? Evidence from Ghana
Authors: Hamdiyah Alhassan; Felix Ankomah Asante; Martin Oteng-Ababio; Simon Bawakyillenuo
Addresses: Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Faculty of Agribusiness and Communication Sciences, University for Development Studies, Tamale, Ghana ' Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana ' Department of Geography and Resource Development, University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana ' Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana Abstract: Generally, studies on households' willingness-to-pay for improved solid waste management services by economists have concentrated on external variables which include education, income, among others, such that the effect of socio-psychological factors like attitude, social norms and perceived behavioural control are weakly understood. This study examined the effect of both external and socio-psychological factors on households' willingness-to-pay for improved solid waste management services in Accra and Tamale metropolises in Ghana. The estimation results from the Tobit regression model indicated that sex of head of household, educational attainment of head of household, total household income, occupation type of head of household, level of satisfaction with solid waste collection services, attitude, subjective norm and location of household significantly influenced households' willingness-to-pay for improved solid waste management services in the entire study area. Acknowledging the fact that willingness-to-pay is dependent on different factors, the study cautions against adopting one-size fit all policies.
Keywords: solid waste management; willingness-to-pay; Tobit regression; contingent valuation method; Ghana.

Title: Green marketing in India: a study of consumer behaviour in Punjab
Authors: Mohd Farhan
Addresses: Mittal School of Business, Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, India
Abstract: A continuous degradation of the environment has led the consumers to incline towards green products in order to preserve the earth. This attitude of consumers compelled many organisations to produce environmental friendly products. This research gives a deep insight for producers of the green products and suggests organising and promoting campaigns for green products and find out level of awareness about green products in India and compare the attitude of its users and non-users. The data has been collected from 390 respondents in four cities of Punjab, i.e. Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala. The sample cities were selected on the basis of the fact that green products are expensive. Hence cities with a higher per capita income were selected. Results of this study show that health is the most important factor behind the use of green FMCG product followed by environment consciousness, willingness for sustainable development, and promotional activities.
Keywords: green products; FMCG; attitude; behaviour; factors; discrimination model; Punjab; health; promotion; packaging.
