Governance

Meet the Board of Managers

The Board of Managers is a board governing the Executive Council. It provides general supervision of the Alumni Association’s business and is made up of officers, at-large members, and the IUAA's CEO and executive director. This group meets three to four times a year. IUAA members vote for the Board of Manager officers, who serve one-year terms.

Nancy L. Hamblin, BS’78, MS’82 Chairwoman 2012-2013 Munster, Ind.

Nancy recently retired as a reading teacher for the School Town of Munster in Northwest Indiana.

Her teaching career included time at Crown Point Community Schools, also in Northwest Indiana, and at the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township in the Indianapolis area. A life member of the IUAA, she serves as the scholarship coordinator and board member of the Lakeshore Region Chapter of the IUAA. Previously, Nancy served terms as an at-large member and chapter network representative on the IUAA Executive Council and as an alumni student recruiter. She and her husband, Jim, BA’77, DDS’81, are the parents of two IU graduates, Lauren, BA’06, and James, MD’09.

Patrick J. O’Connor, BS’74 Chairman-elect 2012-2013 Indianapolis

Patrick is executive vice president at City Securities Corporation in Indianapolis. From 1975 to 1988, he served as board member, vice president, and president of the IUAA’s Indianapolis Men’s Club. A letterwinner, Patrick held leadership roles in the I-Men’s Association for the IUAA and served as the first president of the I Association. He is a past member of the IUAA Executive Council and the Varsity Club Board of Directors. Patrick received the Clevenger Award in 1999 and the IUAA President’s Award in 2009. He and his wife, Cynthia (Garrett), BS’76, have four children.

Jefferson Shreve, BA’89 Vice Chairman 2012-2013 Bloomington, Ind., and Indianapolis

Jefferson is a business owner and investor. Now Indiana’s largest self-storage operator, he founded Storage Express after he finished his IU degree. Jefferson has served on the alumni board of the College of Arts and Sciences and the board of the Jacobs School’s Friends of Music. He is a life member of the IUAA, as well as a member of the IUAA 1854 Society, the Well House Society, Varsity Club, and the President’s Circle.

Brieanna Quinn, BS'01, MA'04 Secretary 2012-2015 Noblesville, Ind.

Brieanna works as director of annual giving for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. As a volunteer for IU, she has served on the Central Indiana Chapter of the IUAA’s alumni board, on the alumni board of IU Dance Marathon, and as president of the Jacksonville (Fla.) Chapter of the IUAA.

Professionally, Brieanna has a decade of higher-education experience, including roles at the IU Foundation as associate director of the Well House Society and director of the 1820 Society.

Barbara Popp, BS’76 Treasurer 2012-2013 New Albany, Ind.

Barbara is president and managing broker for Schuler Bauer Real Estate Services, the largest real- estate firm in Southern Indiana. She also serves as the president of the Louisville Branch Board of the St. Louis Federal Reserve District. Popp previously served as president of the IU Southeast

Alumni Association and on the IUAA Executive Council. A life member of the IUAA, Popp received the IUAA President’s Award in 1994 and the IU Southeast Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008.

Popp lives in New Albany, Ind., with her two children, Kristin and Kendall.

Christopher L. Craft, BS’89 Immediate Past Chairman 2012-2013 Mishawaka, Ind.

Chris is president of the auto/light truck and specialty vehicle division for 1st Source Bank. He is a past president of the IU South Bend Alumni Association and a past chairman of the IUSBAA scholarship program. Chris has served on the IUSB Business School Advisory Board, IUSB Chancellor’s Advisory Board, and the IUAA Executive Council. He is a member of the IUAA 1854 Society and the IUSB Titan 250. Chris and his wife, Kelly, have three children – Collin, Michael, and Katherine.

Sandra Herron, BS'81 Manager at Large 2012-2015 Indianapolis

Sandra is founding principal of MiddlEdge Inc., an organization development consultancy based in Indianapolis. Previously, she spent 11 years in the banking industry, last serving as a senior middle- market banking executive at Bank One. Sandra is past president and board member of the IU Kelley School of Business Alumni Association and a frequent volunteer for Kelley student programs. She previously served on the board of directors of Lacy Leadership Association and Girls Inc. of Indianapolis and on the Mayor’s Leadership Cadre for Central Indiana transit development.

Robert Johnson, BA'88 Manager at Large 2012-2015 Dublin, Calif.

Robert is senior sales manager at Kraft Foods, where he has worked for more than 20 years, and he has supported IU students, faculty, and the university ever since graduating. He served two terms, 1990 to 1996, on the IU College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Board. Robert is a charter member of the International Studies External Advisory Board, which he has served on for more than seven years. A life member of the IU Alumni Association, he supported IU Office of Admissions at San Francisco Bay Area high school college-recruiting events.

Nathan Feltman, BS/BA’92, JD’94 Manager at Large 2011-2014 Carmel, Ind.

Nathan is co-owner and president of Home Health Depot Inc., headquartered in Indianapolis. In addition, he is an executive in residence for an IU Kelley School of Business MBA class. From 2006 to 2008, Nathan served as secretary of commerce for the state of Indiana and served as a member of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels’s cabinet. He is past president and board member of the Robert H.

McKinney School of Law Alumni Association and previously served on the board of directors of BioCrossroads, BioCrossroads Linx, and BioCrossroads Seed Fund. Nathan’s wife is Jo-Ann.

Robert L. Hayes Sr., BGS’95 Manager at Large 2011-2014 Kokomo, Ind.

Bob is a product-line purchasing leader at Delphi Electronics and Safety in Kokomo, Ind. He is a City Councilman at Large for the City of Kokomo. He served on IU Kokomo Chancellor Michael Harris’s transition team. Hayes is the past president of the IU Kokomo Alumni Association’s board of directors. For his volunteer service to the IU Alumni Association and the IU Kokomo campus, he received the IUAA President’s Award in 2006. Hayes lives in Kokomo with his wife, Reba.

Tony Nastase

Student Representative 2012-2013 LaPorte, Ind.

Tony is a senior at IUPUI majoring in biochemistry. A Bepko Scholar and a Valedictorian Scholarship recipient, he anticipates graduating in 2013 with a bachelor of science degree. An active Student Organization for Alumni Relations member, Tony has served as a student ambassador since his freshman year. He was the vice president and executive director of the 2011 IUPUI Regatta. Highly involved in the Honors College, Tony served as the 2010–11 president of the Honors Hall Council.

J T. Forbes was appointed CEO and executive director of the IU Alumni Association on June 1, 2010. He returned to the university after a stint in the private sector, where he served as director of state government relations for Cummins Inc. and a principal private sector staff leader for the United States – Brazil CEO Forum chartered by the US and Brazilian governments. An experienced higher education leader, J T. served in communications, marketing, public affairs, and government relations roles at IU and Michigan State University and provided consulting on these issues for other major public research and land grant colleges. J T. was president of the student body on the Bloomington campus and founded the All University Student Assembly and later served as a trustee of Indiana University. He has three children.
