The Laurel River Association of United Baptists met pursuant to adjournment,

with

the Mt. Pleasant

Church,

Laurel

county,

Ky., October 6, 1876.

The Introductory Sermon was delivered by Elder J. W. Moren, from M.atthew 28 : 19, 20.

The Association was then

called

to order by the Moderator of the last session, Elder Hiram Johnson.

The letters from the churches were read, and the delegates en- rolled as follows:

The names of the messengers being enrolled, the Association proceeded to the clection of officers. Elder Hiram Johnson was elected Moderator, and B. B. Brock, Clerk.

The following new churches applied by letters and messengers for admission to the Association, viz: Mt. Salem, London, and

Green Hill.

On motion, they were rcceived, and their messengers, as en- rolled above, invited to seats in the body.

Thc following churches, dismissed from thc Irvine Association, prescnted letters,.viz: Pleasant Grove and Long Branch.

On motion, they were received, and messengers enrolled as above.

Corresponding letters from sister Associations were called for.

On motion, all visiting brethren were invited to seats in the body. Eldcr Enoch Wakefield, from Franklin Association, re- ported. On motion,

Resolve,l, That our ncxt annual meeting be held with the church at Horse' Creek, on Friday before the first Saturday in October, 1877.

Two letters having been presentcd from Liberty Church, each claiming to be the church, it was, on motion,

Resolved, That a uommittee of om visiting brethren be appointed to hear and determine the difticulty. !ludl'epol't to-morrow morning.

On motion, the delegation of the Mt. Pleasant Church be a com- mittee on divine services.

On motion, Br'n. Jos. Weaver, W. B. Estes, and Joel Philpot were appointed a committee on queries coming from Mt. Pleasant and Rough Creek churches.

On motion, Br'n. F. Lincks, J. F. Weaver and Thos. McCracken, with the Moderator and Clerk, were appointed a committee on ar- rangements.

On motion, adjOUrned until to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock.

The report of the Evangelist of the Association was called for and presented as follows:

DI!:AR BRffiTHREN-As your evangelist for the past year, I respectfully wish to submit the following report for the consideration of this body: Spent in the work 120 clays, traveled nbout 1,230 miles. delive)'ed 135 sermons and exhortations, witnessed 47 accessions to the Church, Hssisted in the ordination of one minister and in the constitution of one church; received from the bretllJ'cn nt Mt. Pleasnnt, $9.75; from other contributors, $4.35-making in the whole

The report from Bro. Joseph Weaver,

(who was apl)ointed

by the last meeting of this body to collect certain historical facts con- cerning the rise and l)rogress of the church at Providence), called for, read and adopted, and ordered to be appended to the Minutes as follows:

The church at Providence WilS constituted with nineteen membe)·s. on the 23d day of May, 1818, ,"nd since then has ordained eight ministers, and consti- tuted seven churches, viz: Rockcastle, London, (now Slate Hill), Rough Creek, Hobertson's Crcek, Little Goose, Walnut G)'ove, and New Bethel.

The chUJ'ches wore fill requested to meet ,lt Providence, on the first Sntur- dlly in Octobe)', 1831, in conference, to organize an Association.

Respectfully submitted, JOSKPH WEAVER, SR.

The committee appointed to hear and determine the difficulty existing in the church at Liberty, submitted the following report:

The committee orgnnized by l\ppointing Elder N. B. Johnson, chairman, ani) N. B. Creekmore. secretary. Letters f)'om both parties were then rend, and, after bearing the evidence, your committee decide that both parties are in disorder, andrecommenc1 that the parties unite upon some disinterested minister as their pnstor, and wipe out all their reco)'ds from Febl'llnry, 187G, to the present tim!', and become one people, and work for Christ in tbe future.
