Books On Demand
• Books On Demand is a new method of purchasing books for the Library’s collection. Students, faculty, and staff are able to select books for the
Library to buy.
• The Library will provide speedy access to books as people need them, usually in between 2 hours – 2 weeks.
• The program was piloted in the fall with the Schools of Nursing and Social Work and the History Department.

Rationale
Books On Demand
• Purchasing books as the campus needs them will help the Library spend funds more wisely.
• Librarians will be move from purchasing large numbers of books just in case someone might need them.
• The program gives IUPUI students, faculty, and staff a larger voice in shaping the Library’s collection.

How It Works
Books On Demand
1. The User finds a book in IUCAT 2. Selects “Get this for IUPUI”
3. Identifies format and shipping preference
4. If there are no complications, the item will be available to the user within about 2 hours for eBooks or 1– 2 weeks for print books

Articles On Demand
• The Articles On Demand service allows faculty to request and receive copies of journal articles not available in the Library’s collections without Library staff intervention.
• University Library will absorb the cost of the copies, which ranges from approximately $19 to $64.
• The Articles On Demand program began with a successful pilot with faculty in the School of Science in 2015.
• The program is currently only available to IUPUI faculty.

Articles On Demand
• Articles On Demand complements the Interlibrary Loan service by adding an unmediated method for faculty to request articles.
• Purchasing articles upon request saves the Library money compared to subscription costs.
• The program effectively expands the Library’s journal holdings by adding access to thousands of journals with a few clicks.

How It Works
Articles On Demand
1. Locate an article through a library database (or ScienceDirect, Google
Scholar, etc.) for which full-text is not available. Click on the “Find It” button.
2. If available as a part of Articles on Demand, there will be an Article link with a
“UL Faculty Articles on Demand” Resource.
3. To continue, click the button on the left labeled Articles on Demand. The user will CAS authenticate. Alternatively, the user can choose to request the article via Interlibrary Loan.
4. The user will receive the article PDF via email within 1 to 2 hours for most requests.

Film On Demand

Books On Demand
• The Library provides access to Kanopy’s streaming film collection of more than 30,000 titles, which include popular films, the Criterion film collection, documentaries, discipline-specific recordings, and more.
• These films can be viewed for personal use, screened in class, or featured in a public performance.
• The Library pays $150 each time a film is viewed. After a film has been viewed three times, the Library owns a 3-year license to the film.

Film On Demand
1. The User finds a film in IUCAT or directly through Kanopy 2. Selects the URL for the film
3. CAS authenticates
4. Starts watching the film
