BREAST CANCER. IS BEING DISCOVERED IH MORE AND MORE WOMER. One in every 10 women are affected, a 17 percent increase in the last 10 years. The increase may reflect early discovery; still, not enough women are having screening mammography. To help educate people about

this problem, St. Margaret's Diagnostic Breast Center at Wishard Hospital joins the American Cancer Society in Breast Health Awareness Week," April 4-7. You are urged to make an appointment now for a

screening mammogram, which can detect breast cancer before you can feel it and provides a baseline for comparing and diagnosing changes in your breasts in the future. At St. Margaret's the screening mammogram is

$50, about half the cost of other facilities. This is a routine breast exam for women without problems. If problems are suspected, the Center also has breast ultrasound and "diagnostic mammography," which are not included in the $50, but are often covered by insurance. In addition to the mammogram, women should have their breasts examined by a

physician every three years if they are from 20-40 years old, and

yearly after that. Self-breast exam should be done every month and the Center can show you how. You do not need a physician's referral for the screening mammogram. (You will be asked for a physician's name to whom results can be sent.) Appointments are available 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Nice Going--Several of the more than 100 people who attended the recent teleconference,

"Racism on Campus," liked what they saw. Lillian Charleston, acting director of

Affirmative Action at IUPUI, scheduled the conference and is working on video copies for use at other times. The Conference Center did a great job with the satellite program, and the presenters brought up many "new" racism problems such as denial and refusal, and then gave ideas for solutions.

One Flight Down--The School of Medicine's Office of Fiscal Affairs is moving its offices 1n Fesler Hall from Room 318 to Room 207. The phone number is still 4-8282.

They Like Us--More than 60,000 people last year thought enough of IU to give us gifts.

They join other individuals who have given the University nearly $100 million in the past three years. Corporate gifts make up millions more. Don't forget. The donation you give to IU is partially deductible from your state taxes.

LIBRARY TO EXPAND THIS SUMMER

It is hardly a secret that the IUPUI library needs more space for books and studying. So, this summer, the eastern half of the library1s lower level will be renovated to accommodate map cases and microforms, now housed on the second floor. This temporary step, needed to alleviate the overwhelming space crunch in the library until a new building can be built, will result in closing the library cafeteria May 6. Renovation work will begin shortly

thereafter. The western half of the seating area will remain in place and will include expanded vending machine services.

SCOTT SHOWERS APRIL FAVORS ON MC DORALD HOUSE

All .during April when you buy specially marked packages of Scott paper products, part of

the money you spend will be donated to help build the new wing on our Ronald McDonald Bouse. If you will cut out the black bar area, the universal pricing code, and send it to Scott before June 30, one more nickel will be donated. Local grocers and the Scott Paper Company are joining forces with consumers for the third consecutive year to help raise more than $1 million for Ronald McDonald Houses and children1s charities. Diana Haugh, chairman of the fund raising committee for the House, hopes you will buy products that will benefit the patients and families who use the facility on our campus.
