PLAN FOR HOG PRICE RECOVERY— The next long-term recovery in hog prices should begin next year and continue for one and a half to two and a half years. That's the prediction of Karl Hobson, a price specialist from Washington State University. The decline in prices now underway, Hobson told a state hog meeting, is likely to continue for the next 12 months and reach the low point of the current cycle by the end of the year. POULTRY Litter BANNED AS FEED— The Food and Drug Administration does not sanction the use of poultry litter in livestock feed.

Holland says there is no risk to livestock because the marking colors are completely edible. The company's brand plans for the mud brand tie-in are still incomplete. Article in the October-November issue of Future Farmers of America magazine by the Honorable Hubert H. We are most pleased with the front page of the October-November edition of The National FUTURE FARMER.

I would like to receive a free copy for each of our 95 FFA members of No.42 in the October-November issue of the National FUTURE FARMER.

You will see news reports in the field about the use of computers in farming.. a new vaccination program to prevent shipping fever .. on "short" hybrid corn or new hybrid wheat.. about new crops and management practices that will affect your future in farming. It's action like this that draws capacity crowds to the Cy-Fair FFA Chapter's summer rodeos. As many as 3,000 people come out for the rodeo performances. Dust boiled over the small group of ranchers who braved a hot Texas sun with their wives and children to watch the spectacle.

Arnold, participants, northern spectators dreamed that this part of the horse game would develop into one of the largest, best-attended dredodeos in the greater Houston metropolitan area. Little did they dream that this was the beginning of one of the most profitable Future Farmer chapters in Texas and probably the United States. The school now has over 1,000 students and 125 boys participating in the vo-ag and FFA program.

Due to Houston's rapid growth, crowds have grown from a few dozen farmers to over 3,000 people for each Friday night performance during the summer months. 34;A handful of boys chasing goats up and down the Texas prairie is a far cry from today's big school-sponsored rodeos that feature roping, bull riding and the rest," Mr. 34;I think the show's success shows what group it's for a group. of teenagers can do when they work hard and are dedicated. Think the success is a tribute to the courage and perseverance of these athletic young men who work hard.

He's referring to the purchase and lease of land used to grow feed for cattle and horses, which is also bought mostly with rodeo money. 34;I can't guarantee everyone financial success, but I can guarantee them a lot of fun," he concludes, looking back and remembering the first group of riders who chased scared goats up and down Texas.

FFAand FHAChapters traditionally sponsor a number of social and recreational activities throughout the school year, but members of this chapter especially look forward to their pheasant feed. MINNESOTA— An enthusiastic effort by Minnesota FFA Chapter members built a $65,000 Speech Therapy Center at Camp Courage. The joy of these disabled young people tells you better than any words. The 'campers' you provide for them and the Speech Therapy Center you built for them are the results of your 'Corn Drives for Camp Courage'. Your wonderful efforts to help these young people lead happier and healthier lives earn not only their boundless gratitude, but also the admiration of a proud community. Thank you."

But in parts of the state where corn is not dominant, chapters collect grain scraps after harvest or cut, peel and sell pulpwood. Members of the Iowa Falls Chapter took action to improve visibility at rural intersections in their area. An article in the Times-Citizen called on all farmers in their area to join this campaign.

The Fruitland Peace Light, which has been in existence for seven years, is steadily growing to be one of the biggest attractions of the Christmas season in Idaho. The Christmas Eve Peace Candle Lighting Ceremony received recognition in the New York Times in December 1965. The form for the light is built in the commercial farm shop, and then old candles, donated by community residents, are melted down and poured into the form.

The FFA chapter also joins forces with the FutureHomemakers chapter each year to present a Christmas program for mentally retarded children at Nampa, Idaho State School, fifty miles from Fruitland. Chapter members run all aspects of the show. Participation is divided into two groups - younger (junior high school or junior) and senior (high school or senior). The annual amateur show is a great opportunity for FFA branch members to do a successful community service while benefiting from public relations.

The article explained what to do and suggested cutting the corn back to about the second node above the ear after pollination, leaving the six leaves around the ear. It was also emphasized that speeders will not benefit from a clear 30-metre view of oncoming traffic. Careful approaches to rural intersections are imperative. IDAHO – Each year the Fruitland, Idaho, Chapter assists in sponsoring various Christmas activities for the community. These include the popular Fruitland peace candle, 'toys for toddlers' and a Christmas program at the state school.

34;Toys for Kids' is a community service where local LionsClubs and FFA chapters collect, repair and restore.

Frank Cloer's ornamental horticulture class and has management responsibilities for the crops produced in the school greenhouse. This greenhouse is part of the vocational agriculture laboratory facilities and was built last year as part of a pilot program in the state. Although all the vocational agriculture students at Douglas County High School study horticulture and landscaping, the greenhouse is operated by fourth-year students.

Half of the "growing benches" are planted in permanent crops, and the rest contain seasonal plants. Here's how Douglas County High School FFAs, Douglasville, Georgia, are taking advantage of a new vo-ag program to qualify for exciting jobs. Some of the plants produced by Douglasville students include chrysanthemums, poinsettias, snapdragons, carnations, geraniums, begonias, azaleas, orchids and numerous houseplants. They have a demonstration of tomato plants and some pepper plants for ornamental purposes.

However, others are sold on an individual basis. Some have the students themselves, and some are used in the. Additional horticultural ventures carried on by Douglasville Future Farmers from the first through the fourth year include the production of bedding plants, propagating shrubs and hardwood control. Its construction provided an excellent opportunity for students to put into practice many of the skills they learned in their vo-ag classes.

34; The teaching of ornamental horticulture is a training program for students in commercial agriculture and is part of a school-based supervised practice program," explains Mr. 34; When these students have completed their studies in ornamental horticulture, most of them will be equipped with enough knowledge and skills to qualify them for a job in a commercial greenhouse," he concludes.

FISH FARMING IS one of the oldest forms of agriculture and has been practiced in many parts of the world.

In the United States, trout are produced in the Rocky Mountains; cat and buffalo fish in the Mississippi Delta; bait fish in the southeast; and salmon in the North West. Certain fish, such as minnows and bluegills, use natural pond organisms more directly and serve as food for some types of fish. One hundred buffalo fish peracre will reach a weight of five pounds each (marketable size) after two years in fertile water.

Finger catfish grow to marketable size (22 to 24 ounces) in 228 days if kept in the spring; 394 days if collected in autumn. During the growing season, a feed conversion of 2>1 kilogram of feed for every pound gained is achieved. There is reason to believe that a one-to-one ratio will be achieved in the future. Amajordif- December-January, 1967-1968. Inadequate water supply is of primary importance in the selection of azite for back manure. The pH should be slightly on the alkaline side.

Ninety percent of farm-raised bait roach are sold live as bait, as fingerlings or as adults for 'paid' ponds. New developments such as pulse, direct current fields and air bubble screens can make it possible for new forms of fish farming to emerge in the future. In its current state of development, fish farming is generally profitable and in some cases its gross income and net profits exceed those of other agricultural crops.
