Early one afternoon, the decoys worked like magic for me, but as the sun sank toward the treetops, the pigeons showed no interest in the cleverly placed trap.

This hunter, stationed near his tree decorated with decoys, bags a pigeon that has joined the "group". Pigeons often mistake decoys for nesting birds. But even more successful was placing decoys in the wood by the pond to simulate pigeons falling to rest on dead trees. One hunter hid near trees decorated with decoys and shot birds that tried to join the crowd, while another hid near a pond to get those who were lured into false security and tried to get straight to the water .

WYOMING - When members of the Pinedale Chapter found they needed an FFA barn, plus funds to send members through college, they decided to start a feeder calf program to raise money. Pinedale citizens, including farmers, doctors, and the local Chamber of Commerce, pledged feeder calves to the members, then built a 36-foot by 40-foot metal building, plus corral loading chute and feed benches. Future Farmers pitched in to cut the 17 hectares of hay on the school grounds, before turning their attention to caring for and grooming their new calves.

Members picked their calves, fattened them, groomed and trained them and even put them through the sales ring at the Ogdcn, Utah, Golden Spike Livestock Show. After next year's program, Pinedale members will own their barn and run their program entirely themselves, a tribute to their community support. Future Farmers and their feeder calves pause long enough for a group ph before this year's Golden Spike Livestock Show in Ogden, Utah. It was no surprise to area farmers this year when Future Farmer Ran Sistrunk of the Mount PleasantChapter was named as the winner.

Committee work, group discussions, and voting on important issues are some of the ways Future Farmers can develop citizenship to ensure the preservation of our American way of life. Americanism is based on God's ways, and Future Farmers in their work with people, animals, and land are constantly reminded of God's great power. Not only must Future Farmers practice America, but they must also include in their work program a program of Americanism for the community. In 1961-62. Louisiana farmers sponsored seminars on Americanism with great success.

As the chapter carries this program of work and "develops character, trains for useful citizenship, and promotes patriotism," members practice Americanism. WEBSTER defines American "the spirit of loyalty to American ideals." We in Illinois are fortunate that the IllinoisAgricultural Association has felt a need for an Americanism program for the FFA chapters in the state. The program began in 1962 with a three-day conference at Illinois State University for department representatives. As an incentive for chapters participating in the program, AA has created an award program for a trip to places of historical interest for 35 FFA members.

There was courage and cunning in everything he did, and the man knew many tricks to cover his tracks. The man stared at Alex for a long moment, then let him flinch a bit. an injun!” he said contemptuously, walking forward.

While the man was talking, thinking about scaring some poor stupid Indian into flight, Alex had walked away from the truck to the man's right. With the man facing the sun, Alex pounced on him. both feet hit the man in the stomach and knock him over with a grunt of agony. His fear, the first real fear in his shallow life, made Alex laugh silently because it showed so clearly in the man's face.
