The convex sides of the prothorax are less coarsely and more densely punctured than the disc. The antennae arc two-thirds of the length of the body, rather hairy, and the 4th joint is much.

178 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

Fore coxae not angled, the cleft completely closed; prothorax abruptly narrowed before and behind, tubercular and strongly armed on the sides; colorful;. Femur with short apical spines; elytraobliquelytruncateinwardsat apex; prothorax coarsely and densely punctate, rounded on sides, with two exposed dorsal callosities; color testaceous; front coxae distinctly angled.

180 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

The prothorax is relatively broader and has a slight tendency toward tubercles on the sides; the pronotum is coarsely pierced with a medial and two dorsal callosities in 9, very densely punctuated, with a posterior medial canal and dorsal cicatrices in the. The antennae are longer than the body in %, shorter in ?, the spines are never long, the sensitive spaces are clearly distinguished, starting from the 4th joint in a small elongated depression, and extending over the next joints to gradually develop the to take up the entire length; a very small fovea can usually be seen at the end of the 3D.

184 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

I can't find enough characters to separate this as a separate genus, let alone place it in a different tribe. This genus has been necessarily created for certain species which in appearance, sculpture, and hairiness are completely similar to the elongated forms of Elaphidion (subpubescens, etc.), but differ in that the joints of the antenna are flattened.

18G DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

187shiny, sparsely punctate and thinly clothed with long full lustre, sparsely punctate and thinly clothed with long full hairs, 3rd and 4th are flattened and slightly concave below. This species by the hairy space of the prothorax shows some resemblance to Stromatium, from which it is quite distinct by .. the anterior coxal cavities not angled externally as well as by many other characters detailed above.

188 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

189front coxal cavities are completely closed; in % the 3d and 4th anterior coxal cavities are completely closed; in %, the 3rd and 4th joints are as thick as the 1st, and the 5th is less enlarged. Body indented, opaque in Curius, cylindrical and polished in Ple'ctromerus; prothorax rounded at the sides in the first, almost straight in the second; 4th jointofantennae slightly shorter than 5th in the first, very shorter in the second.

190 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

The spots on the elytra arch are not very distinct, but the cinereous parts are more concentrated on the base and in a broad band behind the middle.

192 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

Fuscus castaneus, sparse pubescens, pilis volatilibus antennis crurum sparse pubescentibus et prothorace, longioribus in latitudine, tuberculo laterali obtusissimo, late constrictis, antice et posterius et lateraliter tortuosis; elytrisalutaceo-granulatis, parcepunctato-striatis versus suturas, punctis in medio inveteratis, litura pallidorimox antemediasiguatis angulatis. Antennae nigrae, pedibus et prothorace pilis volantibus munita, posterior media in latitudine, apice angustiora, media paullo latiora et latera obliqua, dorsum plana vel minute dense punctata; antennis pedes et bases ferrugineae.

19-4 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

The color is particularly bright; the sculpture of the elytrais curious, color is strikingly bright; the sculpture of the elytrais curious, which is composed of large, densely placed holes, so shallow as to appear obliterated. Body elongate, clothed with short coarse pubescence, flying hairs sparse at base of antennae and legs; head rather small, front short, deeply depressed transversely; mandibles obtuse and under-edged, thought the outline to be hidden by the pubescence; gense short, rounded; eyes large, finely granular, broadly divided, lobes nearly equal in size, rounded triangular; palpi stout, short, last joint truncate, impressed;. Prosternum broad between the coxae, not externally angled; mesosternum broad, projecting, abbreviated behind, coxal cavities open externally; metasternum with side pieces rather broad, scent pores distinct.

Legs slender, hind pair longest; hind thighs % extending to apex of elytra; hind tarsi with 1st node as wide as and equal to the following two united.

196 DESCRIPTIONS OF NEW SPECIES

197Dull test-like, densely hairy; punctures of the elytra closed, finer Dull test-like, densely hairy; punctures of the elytra close, finer behind, a short humerus vitta black, which in one specimen has a continuation near the tip (indicating that it may be intact in some individuals). New Mexico may be a local variant of this species, but the prothorax is less densely pierced, the basal margin of the elytra is not black, and the body beneath is rufo-testaceous, the posterior tibia.

This species is also related to N.erythrocephalus, and in poorly preserved specimens, the markings below would probably be similar; but in the one examined there are only two patches of yellow pubescence on each side; one on the back of the metathoracic episterna, the other on the side of the first abdominal segment at its posterior end.

The prothorax is narrower than the head, longer than broad, deeply constricted anteriorly and posteriorly, and the sides are obtuse but greatly expanded. Legs slender, tarsi long, 1st joint of all much longer than 2d, of hind tarsi 1st and 2nd joints weakly sulcate, with a narrow line of pubescence on each side; 3d joints of all tarsi dilated and deeply bilobed, as in Encyclops.

The species is black, densely punctate, head and prothorax finer than the elytra.

The head, as usual, is gradually made arrow-shaped behind the eyes, but is very distinctly constricted, though not strongly at the base, thus showing an affinity with the Enc'yclops stock; I would be inclined to place it in that tribe, next to Leptalia, but the mouth is too long and the front not vertical enough to justify this.

5. Abdominal ring strongly inflated, dorsal segment convex, ventral very deeply convex, sides lamina, externally broadly impressed and bluntly pointed at the end; the excavation not only occupies the entire lower surface of the segment, but extends over half of the 4th abdominal as a shallow impression; the hind tibia is thickened at the outer end and sharply carinate at the inner edge for the lower third; The 3d joint of the hind tarsus is almost half as long as the 2d and is barely emarginate. The number of species of this genus has not increased since the publication of my first memoir of the Cerambycidoe; but as the study of the typical specimens in the British Museum has enabled me to fix definitively the synonymy of g. Prothorax strongly punctured, strongly rounded on the sides in front of the middle; pubescence long, grayish, denser at the base, but not golden; elytra with four yellow bands, more or less confluent, anterioronebasal, 2nd and 3d often connected near suture; tips subtruncate, not spiny; legs iron, antennae brown.

The color differs quite as much as in L.oblUerala, though I have never seen a specimen of thrush with the pre-median spot, which is but rarely absent in the former. The prothorax is sometimes entirely black, sometimes with the disc and foreleg black, and all the edges yellow; the head is usually black, with the mouth, and the antennal tubercles are yellow; the trunk sometimes completely black, sometimes only black on the sides; the legs are testaceous, with the tarsi darker, and in one specimen the hind thighs are a dark point. The thoracic impression is angular in the middle and extends to the sides; the pubescence of the prothorax is short and erect, that of the elytra is very short, and.

Antennae slender, more than half the length of the body, the fourth node about two-thirds the length of the 5th node. If the yellow spots are greatly expanded and the black is reduced, the varieties may appear somewhat with some varieties of L.
