both prospective candidates and their chairs.
We will be rolling out the 2015/2020 Strategic Plan, which will include elements of all the above, as well as plans to engage more fully in the campus IPE initi- atives, with which Laura Romito and others have been pivotally involved. Shortly before the holi- day break I participated in a workshop and discussion focusing simply on the importance of de- veloping positive and ethical rela- tionships between dentists and their dental hygienists, for the benefit of patient health. That was in Tokyo, and I am grateful to Heather Taylor who provided valuable material for our presen- tation. The world has tuned into IPE; politicians and health care policy makers too.
We have a part to play in this dental school that has been a fountain of scholarly and educa- tional leadership for more than 100 years. In 2015, let us continue that proud tradition.
My previous letter was written imme- diately following the Thanksgiving Holiday, and this one, as we turn the corner from 2014 into 2015. I
hope sincerely that everyone has enjoyed time to relax, refresh, spend time with family and friends, maybe shop the myriad bargains and sales offers with which we have been bombarded!
Looking back over 2014, I would like again to give a big thank you to all our faculty, full time, adjunct and volunteer, for all your contri- butions to our mission. We would be nothing without you.
We are, of course, at the mid- point of our academic and fiscal calendar. Strange as it may feel, this coming semester that launch- es in chill and steel blue cold, will end in Spring or early summer, culminating in the graduation of another generation of dental, hygiene and assisting students, including the landmark event of having our first class of IDP stu- dents join the celebration.
Within that same time frame, departmental budgets will be proposed, discussed and agreed, and most importantly for our
office, faculty will complete Facul- ty Annual Reports and complete the review process with their respective chairs. Our responsi- bility is to contribute to that formative process, both collec- tively and on an individual basis.
We have commenced our discus- sion with the associate profes- sors, a group of key importance to the school, and will progress to others.
By the time of commencement, IUSD will have presented a pro- posal to the campus Mentoring Academy to help advance the crucially important responsibility of fostering career development.
Not as a fait accompli, a trato hecho, a done deal, but as a way of providing momentum to a component of faculty growth and development that can yield bene- fits over years. I know that, from firsthand experience.
Other features of the coming semester will be learning the outcome of this year's P&T pro- cess for our candidates, and es- tablishing further opportunities for faculty development within the school, campus and beyond. I encourage everyone to look out for the regular announcements as well as those for enhanced EBD education and P&T updates, for I N S I D E

After more than a year in a holding pattern, IUSD’s General Practice Residency program is positioned for revitalization. With the appoint- ment of Dr.
P a m e l a Linder in N o v e m b e r 2014 as Visit- ing Clinical A s s i s t a n t Professor and Interim Pro- gram Direc-
tor, GPR program growth and success factors such as student recruitment, curriculum enhance- ment, resident training, dental care services and quality assurance all fall under Dr. Linder’s leadership.
Dr. Linder received her DDS from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and completed her Gen- eral Practice Residency at Brigham
& Women’s Hospital & Harvard Dental School. From the Harvard School of Dental Medicine GPR and hospital affiliations, Dr. Linder
brings in-patient and outpatient experience that will be indispensa- ble in the provision and supervision of direct patient care as well as in the instruction of residents. Pro- gram priorities include re- establishment of the GPR, compli- ance with standards as required by the Commission on Dental Accred- itation (CODA) and recruitment of a qualified resident class to enter July 1, 2015. We look forward to the program’s resurgence and wel- come Dr. Linder to the faculty.
