In the 17 years since it was created by the merger of the IU and Purdue extensions in Indianapolis, more than 60,000 degrees have been awarded here. Additionally, with a faculty and staff totaling more than 7,000, IU P U I is the fourth largest employer in the city with an annual operating budget of $409 million.
The campus boasts the only medical and dental schools in the state, the largest nursing school in Indiana, and the sec. and the largest medical school in the country. Trustees also have input into the af . fairs of IU P U I. The Purdue Board is responsible for the School of Engineering and Technology, as well as the School of Natural Sciences at IU P U I. With the significant growth and expansion taking place at IU P U I, there appears to be optimism for the future walk high on the board. For nearly two years, the IU PUI library system has been plagued by the infamous distinction of having earned a D- in an Association of College and Research Libraries report card. Last spring, IU PUI Library System Director Barbara Fischler said the libraries had been upgraded to a D. Not included in the report were the medical, dental and law libraries, which are independently operated.
The plight of the libraries stems from an inadequate budget which has resulted in too few holdings being passed away. The budget increase from 11.8 million to $2 million is a pittance compared to the nearly SI million in . The School of Medicine Library, located in Medical Science Building room 122 at 635 Barnhill Drive, houses more than 160,000 books and journals.
The Science and Engineering Library will be temporarily housed in the basement of the School of Science and Engineering when the 38th St.

First, I would like to welcome students to another year of education at IUPUI. However, this is not just any year at KJPUI. In August, Gerald Bepko, who is now the former dean of the law school, was named IUPUI's new vice president. Vice President Bepko is a strong leader who skillfully leads the Indianapolis government and community and lets them know that we are a valuable asset to the state as a whole. He has openly said that his first paper will get a new university library for this campus Together with this goal.
Now that we are 16 years old and leaving adolescence as a university, we students, as part of the university community, are responsible for bringing our university to maturity. We can do this by being proud to be students at the university with the broadest selection of programs in the state of Indiana and one of the largest in the Midwest. With great new leadership, a sense of renewal through change, and a sense of pride through uniqueness, we have many reasons to be glad to be students at IUPUI.
