INTRODUCTION

The Law on Mental Health was passed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on August 7, 2014. Law Number 18 Year 2014 on Mental Health was enacted and promulgated in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia

(2)

Year 2014 Number 185, and the Explanation of the Law Number 18 Year 2014 on Mental Health is placed in Supplement to the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5571 by

Minister of Law and Human Rights Amir Syamsudin on August 7, 2014 in Jakarta.

Mental health is a state of psychological well-being that enables a person to cope with the stresses of life, develop skills, learn well, work, and contribute to the community. It is an important part of health and well-being and supports our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, build relationships, and shape the world we live in.

Mental health is a basic human right. And this is important for individual, community and socio-economic development. Mental health is not just the absence of mental disorders. The disease exists on a complex continuum, experienced differently by different people, with varying degrees of pain and suffering, and with widely varying social and clinical consequences. Mental illness includes mental disorders, psychosocial disorders, and other mental illnesses that involve significant distress, impairment, or risk of self-harm. People with mental illness are more likely to have poor mental health, but this is not always the case.

3 types of problematic mental conditions : 1. Stress

Stress is a state when a person is under a great deal of pressure, both emotionally and mentally.

A stressed person will usually appear agitated, anxious and irritable. Stress can also impair concentration, reduce motivation, and in certain cases, trigger depression.

Not only can stress affect the psychology of the sufferer, but it can also impact the way they behave and their physical health.

2. Anxiety Disorder

Anxiety disorder is a psychological condition in which a person experiences constant and uncontrollable excessive anxiety that adversely affects their daily life.

(3)

For some normal people, anxiety usually arises on certain occasions, such as when they are about to face an exam at school or a job interview. But in people with anxiety disorders, this anxiety often arises in every situation. That's why people who experience this condition will find it difficult to relax from time to time.

In addition to excessive anxiety or fear, other psychological symptoms that can appear in people with anxiety disorders are reduced self-confidence, becoming irritable, stressed, difficulty concentrating, and becoming a loner

3. Depression

Depression is a mood disorder that causes the sufferer to constantly feel sad. Unlike ordinary sadness that generally lasts for a few days, the feeling of sadness in depression can last for weeks or months.

In addition to affecting feelings or emotions, depression can also cause physical problems, change the way people think, and change the way they behave. It is not uncommon for people with depression to find it difficult to carry out normal daily activities. In some cases, they may even self-harm and attempt suicide.

Based on the data based on data from several media circulating that in 2023 many students in indonesia are desperate to commit suicide.

The news of the death of a student of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Monday (2/10/2023) shocked the community. The reason is, the student with the initials SMQF committed suicide by jumping from the 4th floor of Building Y of the UMY University Residence (Unires) dormitory. The 18-year-old student is suspected of being depressed. The victim was known to be desperate to carry out the action when his dorm roommate was still sleeping. The night before, the victim had downed up to 20 grains of headache medicine and was taken to the nearest hospital. He was saved, but a second suicide attempt was inevitable.

“The man's body was found on Saturday evening, at around 3pm Wita. The Kupang State Polytechnic student is suspected of suicide, because he was found hanging.https://www.detik.com/bali/nusra/d-6935327/geger-mahasiswa-di-kupang-

"It is suspected that he was frustrated because of poor grades and there were several courses that did not pass so he did not graduate," Krisna told reporters on Wednesday (11/10/2023).

Krisna explained, after AKL was found dead under the Liliba Bridge, Liliba Village, Oebobo District, Kupang City, his party examined a number of witnesses, including visiting the campus where AKL was studying.

NT (17), a vocational high school student in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), was found dead of suicide. "He was found dead hanging from a teak tree, yesterday morning at around 06.30 Wita," Maulafa Sector Police Chief Adjunct Police Commissioner (AKP) Nuryani Trisani Ballu told reporters on Monday (27/11/2023).

RESEARCH METHODES

In this article the methodes that I use is a Qualitative Research Methods.

What is Qualitative Research Methods? Qualitative research is descriptive research and tends to use analysis. Process and meaning are more emphasized in qualitative research. The theoretical foundation is used as a guide so that the focus of the research matches the facts in the field. In this metodhs I prefer to use case study because the existence of interview activities in order to get answers that are in accordance with the article that is made.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

According to a 2022 study, the suicide rate in Indonesia may be four times greater than official data. According to experts, the lack of genuine data has hidden the true scale of the suicide problem in Indonesia.

In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) said suicide was the fourth leading cause of death among people aged 15-29 years worldwide in 2019.

Coordinator of the Expert Team of the SDGs National Secretariat of the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Yanuar Nugroho said that the mental health condition of young people is now a cause for concern.

This is clearly not a pleasant fact, considering that Indonesia is targeting to become a developed country by 2045.

What is the importance of maintaining mental health?

(7)

Mental health is a term that describes a person's emotional, psychological and social well- being. The way a person thinks, feels and acts is greatly influenced by their mental health.

When mental health is maintained, a person will find it easier to handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

In every stage of life, mental health is important to maintain, from childhood, adolescence, to adulthood. Maintaining mental health is essential to stabilize behavior, emotions, and thoughts. Here are some important benefits of maintaining mental health:

 Improves mood

 Reduce anxiety

 Feeling more peaceful

 Thinking more clearly

 Improves relationships, both with yourself and others

 Improves self-esteem

How to maintain mental health

By now, you know the importance of maintaining your mental health. But how can you take care of your mental health? Here are some ways to do so:

1. Appreciate yourself

Valuing yourself means valuing your overall well-being and happiness. When you value yourself, you provide unconditional support and care for yourself.

Valuing yourself can be done through being willing to fulfill your personal needs.

Self-respect is considered an important aspect of maintaining mental health. It is associated with increased happiness and greater life satisfaction.

2. Manage stress

Not all stress is bad. However, long-term stress can lead to health problems, such as heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure and depression. By managing stress, you are

(8)

more likely to maintain your mental health. Try to manage stress by exercising daily, setting aside time for yourself, maintaining your diet, getting enough sleep, and avoiding alcohol and drugs.

3. Socialize

Try to socialize more, especially with people you trust. Socializing with someone you trust, be it a friend, family member or colleague, can help maintain mental health. You may feel better if you can openly share what you are going through with someone who cares about you.

CONCLUSION

Mental health is a state of psychological well-being that enables a person to cope with the stresses of life, develop skills, learn well, work, and contribute to the community. It is an important part of health and well-being and supports our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, build relationships, and shape the world we live in.

Based on the research I did many teenager have some problem so that make them easily to get depressed for example :

 they feel pressured when their freedom is restricted

 a situation or circumstance where the situation does not match what they expect so they feel pressured

 when getting so many assignments and exams from school also makes students stressed

 stressed when demanded to be an all-round person in which the situation or situation they don’t like.

But the teenagers have that own solution to overcome the problem:

1. Understand the problem that is happening, 2. Know the cause of the problem

3. Focus on the solution

(9)

4. Find a solution strategy 5. Pray for God's help

6. Calming oneself to stay about and be patient to find a way out of the problem.
