Submitted to the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at UIN Ar-Raniry Darussalam Banda Aceh as a partial fulfillment. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and endless love to my family, especially to my beloved father, Khairuddin and my beloved mother, Titin Sumarotin, who have given me support and love during my studies. In order to successfully teach in the microteaching class, students must develop a good lesson plan.

The lesson plan acts as a guideline in teaching to achieve the learning objectives and successful teaching. In fact, during the microteaching lesson, some students still faced various difficulties in designing the lesson plan. Therefore, the researcher conducted a study to analyze students' difficulties in designing lesson plans during microteaching lessons and to find out students' perspectives on the lesson plans of microteaching lessons.

The population was the English Department student group 2015, in academic year 2017/2018 in UIN Ar-Raniry who already took the micro-teaching class in the seventh semester. The findings revealed that the students' perspective on the lesson plan of microteaching class was as a teaching guideline, teaching planning and crucial aspect of teaching and the students.

Although the activities in the classroom may not have actually taken place as the lesson plan, the lesson plan is still a guide for the teachers. Thornbury (1999) argued that the lesson plan is considered a problematic area, especially for student teachers to professional teachers. Therefore, there are some students who still face difficulties in designing lesson plan, while it plays a big role for student candidates in micro-teaching class.

Moreover, the lesson plan is one of the main factors that are evaluated during the microteaching class. Additionally, one of the problems in microteaching is the instructional aspect that relates to the lesson plan. In my experience, my friends still faced some problems in designing the lesson plan in the microteaching class.

This research helps the students to design the lesson plan and give them reflection in designing the lesson plan. Furthermore, the teacher can strengthen and focus on training the students in designing the lesson plan.

Based on the definition above, the lesson plan can be defined as a guide for the teacher in the learning process to achieve successful teaching. In the 2013 curriculum, for example, indicators refer to knowledge competency points 3.1 to 3.11 and skill competency points 4 to 4.13 (BPMSDMPK-PMP, 2014). e) Teaching materials and teaching tools. Moreover, computer, internet, video cameras, mobile phone are the general sources of learning materials and media (Kitao & Kitao, 1997). f) Teaching and learning activities.

These activities must be explored in the lesson plan and the teacher must make their student active. The lesson plan benefits the teacher because it provides a framework for instruction and it guides the implementation of standards-based instruction. In addition, the lesson plan establishes a guideline for teachers about what has been taught and needs to be taught (The Teaching Excellence in Adult Literacy [TEAL], 2010).

This means that the bill of materials will be in line with what you actually intend to do. d) Instruction. The activities described in the lesson plan are not in accordance with the objectives/indicator of the lesson.

Microteaching

  • Problems in microteaching
  • The benedit of microteaching

Bartell (2004) looked at the challenges faced by students in the microteaching classroom and categorized the challenges into seven categories. In addition to those categories, Bartel also gave the example of the problems in the form of the table below. Microteaching helps to stimulate various skills in trainees, improve the management skills of the teachers, and provides a good opportunity because of small-scale education.

Microteaching can increase teacher confidence levels due to multiple microteaching activities and practices. The purpose of the micro-teaching is to guide the course participants to achieve a positive attitude towards feedback and comments. The microteaching program helps master types of microteaching skills and strategies such as lecturing, questioning, probing, and initiating discussions.

RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Research Findings

  • The Document Analysis Result
  • The result of Interview

The researcher analyzed students' lesson plans based on the guideline of lesson plan content analysis with some criteria of analysis for each component of the lesson plan. This can be seen from the example of students' lesson plan below. According to the interview result, the interviewees realized that the lesson plan plays an important role in their teaching, especially in the micro-teaching class.

Based on the interview results, the researcher also concluded in several aspects about their perspective on the lesson plan for the microteaching class. 7 also said “The lesson plan is like a guide and it is really useful for the student-teacher in the microteaching class” (Int. 7, December 17, 2018). Based on the interviewee's answers above, the interviewees revealed that the lesson plan guides them in teaching systematically.

6 mentioned “A lesson plan is a set of outline that contains a description of what the teacher wants to do in the classroom..” (Int. 6, November 17, 2018). With the above answers, the interviewees argued that a curriculum is a set of lesson plans that have been planned before. In addition, the interviewees also believed that the curriculum is a teaching plan for what they want to do in the classroom.

20 think "in my opinion, the lesson plan is very important because it is useful to manage what we will teach and do in the teaching process and also. Based on the interview results above, the interviewees believed that the lesson plan was a crucial aspect in teaching, especially in the micro-teaching class. According to the interview result, all the interviewees were still confused and had less understanding about the lesson plan.

They also acknowledged that formulating the indicator was one of the most difficult components of the curriculum. 13 said “The type of problem that I faced when designing the lesson plan is when designing the indicator. Based on the above responses of the interviewees, they revealed that the wording of the indicator was their main problem when designing the lesson plan.
