ADMISSIONS

High school students who wish to take classes at Boyce College can apply as special students. A student who is regularly enrolled in another accredited institution may enroll in Boyce College for a limited period of time (usually a term or semester) upon the recommendation of the dean and registrar of the student's home institution.

OBTAINING APPLICATION

Boyce College is committed to providing students with access to campus facilities and academic programs. Students who have accessibility needs or learning-related needs are encouraged to contact the Office of Student Life to find out how Boyce College can help address those needs.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Students who wish to join the Southern Baptist Convention for career service qualify for one semester at the SBC tuition rate if they complete a standardized covenant form available from the Admissions Office. Students who DO formally withdraw may contact the Admissions Office to see if additional materials are needed before re-enrolling.

STUDENT STATUS

Each Boyce student is categorized into one of the following classifications of academic standing. Academic Warning If a student's grade point average in the last grading period is below a "C-" (1.7 on a 4.0 scale), the student is placed on academic warning. The student must enter into an agreement with the dean or designated representative regarding course load and course selection in light of all factors affecting academic performance.

If a student has a valid reason for being absent from classes for a long time (such as illness or an accident), the student is obliged to inform the professor so that missed tests and assignments can be made up. When requested to review, the student will be notified of the request and asked to provide the response they desire in writing. Students enrolled at the Louisville campus. Twenty-four of the last thirty credit hours of the student's degree program must be completed at Boyce College (eighteen of the last twenty-four hours for the AA degree).

The right to inspect and review the student's educational records within 45 days of the day the seminary receives a request for access. The seminary official will arrange access and notify the student of the time and place where the records may be inspected. If the records are not maintained by the seminary official to whom the request was made, the official shall inform the student of the proper official to whom the request should be directed.

The right to request changes to the student's educational records that the student believes are inaccurate or misleading. If the seminary decides not to change the protocol as requested by the student, the seminary will notify the student of the decision and inform the student of his or her rights to further appeal. If the student chooses this option, all new requirements must be met and the student must notify the Office of Academic Records.

Students will be trained as musicians and will be able to serve as worship leaders and music program leaders in churches or other ministries. Graduates who continue their education at Southern Seminary's School of Church Music and Worship will have met all placement requirements for the school.

The purpose of this program is to recruit, train, place and network youth leaders globally. This program contains many of the same courses as the Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies.

An examination of various ways in which churches can recruit, teach, and minister to single adults, with attention to their special needs. An examination of educational and service opportunities with older adults and how to develop and implement programs to meet their needs. A Christian study of the historical relationship between deaf and hearing in terms of culture, an examination of the contributions of deaf people to society, and a look at the history and significance of American Sign Language.

A study of the importance of recreation in personal and church life and different ways of starting church recreation programs. A study of the responsibilities of different staff positions, the relationships between staff members, developing a team spirit, staff planning and working with lay leadership. This course will focus on a careful study of biblical leadership principles, an analysis of the functions of administration with an application to local church and denominational ministry with practical application to personal life and ministry.

HU 422 Great Books Seminar II 3 hours Continuation of the study of great books from the Enlightenment to the present day. A continuation of the study of New Testament Greek with an emphasis on grammar, vocabulary and syntax. This course includes an in-depth exegesis of a selected book or passages of the New Testament.

This course includes a thorough exegesis of a selected book or passages from the Old Testament. A study of the personal presentation of the gospel, including an overview of the biblical basis of evangelism. A study of how to teach and do missions in the local church using Southern Baptist organizations for mission education, promotion, and action.

MU 111 Worship Leading Skills 3 hours An introductory course designed for students who wish to develop basic skills in worship leadership, including music reading, healthy singing, planning and leading worship. Every music student must take 6 semesters of Recital Lab which is attending recitals and lectures. An overview of worship music from early Christian worship to the present with an emphasis on the historical musical periods.

Preparation and performance of large musical drama theater specially designed for ecclesiastical and related auspices.

Prerequisites: Junior Status, declared youth major YM 388 Supervised Youth Ministry Experience: Outreach and Campus Ministry II 1/2 hour. YM 487 Supervised Youth Ministry Experience: Leadership Development I 1/2 hour Required three hours of service at a Center for Youth Ministry approved site under the supervision of a tenured youth ministry professional. While avoiding worldly trends, the youth ministry training of the CYM emphasizes the discipline to relate to today's adolescent and his world.

CYM Intern: In partnership with CYM and an "Approved Country Church," the CYM intern serves as a special assistant to the CYM staff to provide hands-on training to all youth ministry students. Students will benefit more through full participation with the youth ministry in the country. Youth Ministry students serving with an approved church are encouraged to attend one of the approved sites.

Draper, Associate Professor of Biblical Studies, Baylor University; M.Div., Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; D.Min., Luther Rice Seminary; Ph.D., New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Also a dedicated teacher, he has taught at several universities and seminaries since 1990, most recently at North Greenville College in South Carolina. He has served on church staff in Louisiana and Texas as a youth director and worship pastor and has led worship for over 10 years.

He has served as a church planter in Guatemala on the International Mission Council among both Mayan and Latin Peoples, pastor, evangelistic preacher, associate pastor of an inner-city mission, pastor of a Spanish-speaking new church, state congressional assistant, member-based church planting, and in interim pastoral care. In addition to training Hispanic leaders, he has taught Native American Baptist leaders on the reservations of northeastern Arizona. He has been preaching and teaching the Bible for more than 25 years and has served as pastor of churches in West Virginia, Illinois, and Missouri.
