Dr. Eng. Abu Khalid Rivai, M. Eng. is an associate researcher at the Center for Science and Technology of Advanced Materials – National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia (BATAN). He was born in the rain city
“Bogor” on May 8, 1978. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bandung Institute of Technology in 2001. Then, he directly joined with Center for Development of Advanced Reactors System – National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia (BATAN). In 2006 he received Master of Engineering (M.
Eng.) from Department of Nuclear Engineering - Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan and in 2009 he received Doctor of Engineering (Dr. Eng.) from the same institution. All the programs were supported by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho Scholarship). He received a competitive grant from Japan Society of Mechanical Engineering (JSME) when he studied master program, and department’s best award for his master final defense. He received a competitive grant from Japanese Ministry when he studied doctoral program. He finished doctoral program for 2.5 years from 3 years regular program with the title of dissertation was “Studies on Materials Corrosion and Oxygen Sensors at High Temperature and Core Neutronics for Lead Alloy-Cooled Fast Reactor”.
After finished the doctoral program, he directly join as a postdoctoral fellowship to Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) for one of J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Center)`s projects for almost 2 years, 2009-2010. His research was about investigation of high-corrosion resistant materials for proton beam window for Accelerator Driven Transmutation System (ADS). In 2011 he started his research at Center for Technology of Nuclear Industry Materials – BATAN. Up to know he actively involved with national and international research project. In 2012-2014 he was one of principal investigators for national consortiums which his project was about research and development of high temperature
materials by uitilization of Indonesian natural resources. In 2011, he did short-term research at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology - Germany about utilization of Pulsed Electron Beams for surface treatment of materials for nuclear reactor applications. In 2013, he did short-term research at Korean Advanced Nano Fabrication Center (KANC) – Republic of South Korea about utilization of Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) technique to investigate nano-channel formation in corroded steels by high temperature molten Lead-Bismuth Eutectic (LBE). In 2014, he did short-term at Institute of Advanced Energy (IAE) – Kyoto University Japan about development of advanced steels ODS (Oxide Dispersion Strengthened) steels for advanced nuclear reactor system applications. All the short-term research projects were granted by Ministry of Research and Technology of Indonesia. His current research interests are development of high temperature materials for advanced nuclear reactors system. At the Center for Science and Technology of Advanced Materials – BATAN, he is the coordinator of research group of development of structural and functional materials for nuclear reactor systems.
