Welchsa's advice to anyone interested in becoming an agriculture teacher is that people must have a strong desire to teach and not be encumbered by financial rewards. Like beginning teachers in Chicago, Welch says, "You have to have a strong desire to help young people achieve." Welch says the main reason he chose this career was the strong influence his agriculture teacher had on him as a teenager. Teachers also have an organization that helps them improve as professionals. It is called the National Association of Professional Teachers of Agriculture.

He didn't have much shop space, so Cody did most of his work outside.
