The aim of this research was to find out if teaching listening using Spotify Application for learning English to improve students' listening comprehension, and to find out students' interest in learning listening comprehension at the ninth grade of SMPN 35 Finding out Makassar. The population in this research was students of SMPN 35 Makassar in 2020/2021 academic year, namely class 9. The result of the research indicates that the use of Spotify Application improves students' listening comprehension and students' interest in listening, This is proven by the students' average scores in pre-test and post-test.

The results showed that the Spotify App significantly increased the students' listening comprehension and their interest in listening after the treatment. So, there was students' interest in spotify after the treatment was done. The students' listening comprehension test in the post-test was less than α. It means that Spotify Application can improve students' listening comprehension in English learning at SMPN 35 Makassar.

The author finally completes the thesis titled "Improving students' listening comprehension using Spotify application at Class IX SMPN 35 Makassar".

It can be a success for the process of listening through the Spotify application to make the listening activities more effective and not boring to learn to listen. Second, the condition of the students who lack vocabulary that will make them unable to understand in learning English. Learning to listen using Spotify Application can't make students bored and feel lazy when learning to listen.

In the Spotify application, students can learn to listen through English songs and practice more with just the handset. In this study, the researcher would use the Spotify application on the smartphone to improve the student's listening comprehension. Can spotify application improve student listening skills in ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 35 Makassar.

Listening Stage The listening stage is the new listener hearing everything said by the speaker in the speaker's pronunciation. Comprehension stage, the stage of comprehension after listening, arises the desire to understand well the content of the conversation conveyed by the speaker. Definition of listening, listening is one of the subjects studied in the field of language studies and in the discipline of conversation analysis.

Since you are understanding the basic building blocks of the language, you can build these skills over time. Critical listening is a kind of listening activity in the form of searching for errors or mistakes, even the good and right of a speaker's speech for strong reasons that can be accepted by reason. Interrogative listening is an intensive type of activity that requires more concentration and selection of points from the speaker's speech, because the listener will ask many questions.

At the level of understanding, after listening, there is a desire for the listener to understand or understand well the content of the conversation conducted by the speaker.

Previous Related Research Findings

The data from the post-test was given to know the students' listening comprehension after they received the treatment. This means that all students would like to learn to listen at any time using the Spotify application. Based on the table above, we can see that the students are interested in learning English using the Spotify application.

In this research, the independent variable was the Spotify app, while the dependent variable was students' listening comprehension. The pre-test was administered before using the Spotify application to obtain data on students' prior knowledge, while the post-test was administered after using the Spotify application on the smartphone. The pre-test was done to find out the students' preliminary listening comprehension before the treatment was administered.

Here the researcher gave a task to the students to listen to the song according to given topic. This analysis compares the students' achievement and performance during the pre-test, treatment and post-test. The findings presented in this part consist of the data obtained through the test to see the students' listening comprehension after giving the treatments with Spotify application.

The data from the pretest was intended to explore the students' prior knowledge of listening comprehension before they received the treatment. Most of the students scored very poorly, which means that the students' listening comprehension was still low. Before the treatment was carried out, the writer was given a pre-test to familiarize himself with the students' prior knowledge.

Calculation of the result of the students' pretest, mean score and standard deviation is shown in the following table. After calculating the results of the students' pre- and post-tests, the mean score and standard deviation were presented in the following table. Student performance showed that students' post-test scores were higher than those of students.

At the third meeting, the writer used a post-test in the same format as the pre-test to know the listening comprehension of the students. Using spotify application in teaching listening is effective for students listening comprehension at SMPN 35 Makassar.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Findings

This section deals with the presentation and elaboration of data on pre-test and post-test, and the students' improvement in listening comprehension before and after the use of treatments. It was analyzed in three phases: the score of the students' listening test, the classification of the students' score and the calculation of the average score. 18 students were classified as good, 3 students were classified as average, and none of the students were classified as poor and very poor.

After conducting the pre-test and post-tests of the students in the pre-experimental section, the writer used the t-test to test the hypotheses. In this research, the null hypothesis (Ho) stated that the implementation of the Spotify application cannot improve the listening comprehension of students in English in the ninth grade of SMPN 35 Makassar in the academic year 2020/2021. While the alternative hypothesis (H1) stated that the implementation of the Spotify application can improve the listening comprehension of students in English in the ninth grade of SMPN 35 Makassar in the academic year 2020/2021.

In addition to using the test to investigate the effect of using the Spotify application on students' listening comprehension, the writer also used questionnaires to attract students' interest in using the Spotify application. Students need to answer the question whether they are interested in learning English or not. And the students. you have to choose the correct answer by ticking the option, namely: 1.)Strongly Disagree (SD), 2.)Disagree (D), 3.).

Overall, the writer found that most students responded positively to using Spotify to improve their listening comprehension. From the above table it showed that 112 students answer strongly agree, 134 students answer agree, 102 answer disagree and 150 students answer strongly disagree.

Discussions

The treatment instrument as follows, the author asked the students to open the zoom meeting on the laptop, so the researcher asked the students to download the spotify application on their hand phone. The author asked the students to complete the lyrics that the author has removed. Namely by listening to the song playing on their respective hand phone, of course using spotify application.

The treatment aimed to give and explain how to learn listening using the spotify app. Because most of the students got high scores and no students got low scores, so it can be concluded that the students have an improvement in listening comprehension after receiving and explanation of how to learn using spotify app. Regarding the previous discussion, the writer concluded that the use of spotify application in teaching listening comprehension of ninth grade students of SMPN 35 Makassar can improve the students, listening comprehension.

The Spotify app is a digital medium for listening to songs, a fun way to learn listening that encourages students to improve their listening comprehension. Based on the data analysis, the writer concludes that the use of spotify application in teaching listening in the second grade of SMPN 35 Makassar 2020/2021 academic year can be used to determine the effectiveness of using spotify in listening, which is evident from the significant percentage of the pre-test. Using the spotify app in teaching listening songs could increase students' interest and motivation to listen because they can listen to whatever they want.

And using spotify app in teaching listening songs can make students have enough confidence in their listening. From the research, the author can conclude that the use of spotify application for listening comprehension can improve the students' listening comprehension complete song lyrics in the 9th grade students of SPMN 35 Makassar and the use of spotify application can be a solution for listening skill be in The teachers can try to apply Spotify Application or another digital media to learn listening in their English class, especially for listening comprehension.

Also, students should be more interested in learning English, they should change their mindset about English. An investigation of listening comprehension problems encountered by Saudi students in the EL listening class.
