The Relationship Between Lonely and Intrasexual Competition in Tinder Application Users

ABSTRACT
Dating apps are increasingly being utilized as a substitute for socializing and finding a companion, particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic. Loneliness is one of the reasons given by many apps’ users, particularly those who use the Tinder application. This study was a quantitative correlation method this study which aimed to determine the relationship between loneliness and intersexual competition among users of the Tinder application. The population was active users of Tinder application in Jakarta in which the sample was 160 respondents who participated in this study. The data has been collected through a questionnaire the UCLA loneliness Scale (version 3) by Lerisha. To measure intersexual competition used Intersexual Competition Scale (ICS) by Bunk and Fisher. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The result showed that there was a significant relationship between loneliness and intersexual competition which has a positive direction and it was moderately correlated which mean that the higher level of loneliness and the higher level of intersexual competition.
Moreover, online dating applications can be used as a medium to reduce feelings of loneliness.
