ABSTRACT

The Development of Business English Teaching Materialfor Students of Politeknik Negeri Padang

The research was carried out because there was the gap between Accounting students’ mastery of Business English and Business English really neededin work place. One of causes is the reis no proper teaching material for that purpose and the problem can besolved by developing the teaching material for Business English class. The aimof this research is for developing a Business English Teaching Material for Accounting students at State Polytechnic of Padang.

The teaching material will make link and match between hatis taught to the students and what is really needed in the work place. The method used is Research and Development with ADDIE teaching material development procedures which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Respondents of the research are 34 alumni ofAccounting Department from State Polytechnic of Padang, four Business English lecturers, and five business practitioners of five companies. The research product was validated by two experts of academic and business practitioners. With the procedures based on research and development theories, the researcher got input about Business English teaching material which covers four language skills with 15 topic discussions. By statistical test, It is concluded that the teaching material that has been developedis valid, effective, and practice, soit can be applied for the Business English class. The product of this research his the Business English teaching material that consists of Business English 1 Students’ Book and Business English 1 Teacher’s Book.

Pengembangan Bahan Ajar Business English Untuk Mahasiswa Politeknik Negeri Padang

Penelitian ini dilakukan karena adanya kesenjangan antara penguasaan BusinessEnglish mahasiswa jurusan Akuntansi, Politeknik Negeri Padang dengan apa yang dibutuhkan didunia kerja. Salah satu penyebab dari kelemahan penguasaan Business English mahasiswa adalah belum tersedianya bahan ajar yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa.

Persoalan tersebut dapat diatasi dengan pengembangan bahan ajar Business English. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk pengembangkan bahan ajar Business English untuk mahasiswa jurusan Akuntansi, Politeknik Negeri Padang. Selanjutnya, dengan adanya bahan ajar Business English ini akan tercipta link and match antara apa yang diajarkan dengan apa yang dibutuhkan di dunia kerja. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development dengan prosedur pengembangan bahan ajar ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahap: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Responden dari penelitian adalah 34 orang alumni jurusan Akuntansi Politeknik Negeri Padang, empat orang dosen Business English, dan lima orang praktisi bisnis dari lima perusahaan. Produk penelitian divalidasi oleh dua orang pakar, dari pihak akademisi dan praktisi bisnis. Melalui prosedur penelitian yang mengacu pada teori-teori penelitian dan pengembangan bahan ajar, maka diperoleh masukan tentang bahan ajar Business English yang mencakup empat keterampilan berbahasa (language skills) dengan lima belas topik bahasan. Melalui uji statistik, disimpulkan bahwa bahan ajar yang dikembangkan valid, efektif, dan praktis, sehingga bisa diaplikasikan pada kelas Business English. Adapun produk dari penelitian adalah berupa bahan ajar Business English yang terdiri dari Business English 1 Students’

Book dan Business English 1 Teacher’s Book
