This research aimed at investigating the effectiveness of think-quest based project learning in teaching writing.This research employed quasi-experimental method with focused on nonequivalent control group design since control group and experimental group were not chosen randomly. There were two variables, namely independent variable (think-quest based project learning) and dependent variable (The dependent variable was the writing skill).The population of this research was the second year of SMK negeri 1 Barru academic year 2016/2017 which consisted of 26 students. The sample were taken by using total sampling technique. The sample of the research was 26 students as experimental group and 26 students as control group.The instrument of this research was a procedural test used in pre-test and post-test.
The result of finding indicated that there was no significant difference between the students who were taught by the use of think-quest based project learning in teaching wrriting skill. The mean score of post-test (747.5) in experimental group was greater than the mean score of post-test (700.38) in controlled group. The value of t-test (7.85) was higherthe velue of t-table (2.060) at the level of significance 0.05 with degree of freedom(df)= 26.Therefore, hypothesis H0 was accepted and H1 was rejected.
It can be concluded that the use of think-quest based project learning Activity was effective to be used to improved students’ ability in writing because there was a significant difference between the progresses in writing ability in writing of the students who were studying through Think-Quest based project learning and those are not.
