Background
A commission as a second lieutenant can lead to a short stint in the military and then a smooth transition to civilian life. If so, young military officers leaving the service are highly sought after by Fortune 500 firms for their leadership experience. On the other hand, a young military officer may fall in love with the lifestyle and benefits of being an officer and decide to pursue a rewarding career outside of the service in the United States.
Active duty or retired military personnel are assigned to the Department of Military Science with the approval of the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) ROTC Faculty Advisory Committee and the Dean of the Faculty, as confirmed by the Trustees of Indiana University.
