Diplotriaena:Body
long, slender, attenuated at ex- tremities,more
abruptlyso atanteriorthan atposterior portion. Oral openingmore
orlessovalin shape, notsurroundedbylips.Four
pairs of largesubmedian
cephalic papillae, one papillaof eachpair internal to the other papilla; papillae approximately equal in size. Lateral papillaeoramphids
appearing as darkareas, one on each lateral side, situatedbetween thetwo
outersubmedian
papillae. Chitinous tridents (fig. I, h) very conspicuous, one on each lateral side of anterior end of esophagus, their distal endssomewhat
enlarged and tips of dorsaland
ventral prongs of tridents delaminated.Esophagus
differentiated into an anterior short, narrow,and
a posterior long, broad portion.Intestine usually visible through
body

be distinguishedfrom
allother speciesof the genus Diplotriaena, so far as the present writer is able to determinefrom
the published descriptionsand
figures of those species, by the short spiculewhich
is serrated for its entirelengthexcept for thetwo
extremities,and
by the size of the long spicule,which
is nearlytwo and
one half times as long as the short spicule. This long spicule is exceeded in length bythose of onlytwo
other species of the genus, namely, D. nochti Hoeppliand
Hsii (1929)and
D. obtuso-caudata(Rudolphi, 1819).
