In fact, Where the Wild Things Are fails because it's not scary enough for your kids. Southern Baptist Theological Seminary recently merged its School of Leadership and School of Church Music and Worship to form the School of Church Ministries.

In the mid-20th century in the South, Southern Baptists did not have to be sectarian because they were "home." In that address, Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, highlighted some important issues that he believes need to be addressed by the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) in the very near future.

In the 1950s, according to statistics, it took about 20 Southern Baptists each year to win one person to the Lord. After all, intentional soul-winning can be awkward, even scary, and easily dismissed when you start thinking that maybe God will allow the "sincere confusion" of the lost. Some couples are still embarrassed by biologist Paul Ehrlich's "zero population growth," while others are paralyzed by misleading estimates of the cost of raising a child.
Compare the fruit of door-to-door preaching in the heart of Brazil with the same activity in Brussels. Of course, God can work extensively, without hindrance, anywhere, and church history is full of miraculous outbursts of the Spirit in the most unlikely of places.
SBC BAPTISMS
Hence the comment, "That excited convert who continued to share the gospel with the lost had to fall back to fellowship with the rest of us." Some say the decline in baptisms and church membership is largely a matter of demographics: indeed, we're just having fewer children these days. But often there is no recognition that America has changed dramatically for the worse, and it only takes a few missionary trips to understand how this can affect church growth.
And when we read in 1990 about 56,000 converts in four weeks during the coastal crusade in Kenya, we thought this could be repeated on the French Riviera. But there is much to be said for examining the ground into which the gospel has been cast.

AMERICA
In the 1970s, most honeymooners went to a nice hotel on their honeymoon; now couples are going to the Caribbean. Now it is easily available on the Internet in the most remote regions of the country. This ungodly fixation on money, sex, and power has had a disastrous effect on the spread of the gospel, and culture has suffered immensely as we have surrendered large parts of the arts, academia, media, and government to the suffocating scrutiny of the lost.
This sorry story is told in many articles and books, including Roger Kimball's "The Long March: How the Cultural Revolution of 1960s Changed America" and Diana West's "The Death of the Grownup: How America's Arrested Development Is Bringing Down Western Civilization." In the former, Kimball traces the rise of "antinomic hedonism"; in the latter, West traces the rise of the "eternal adolescent," for whom "restriction" is anathema. But others admit, following Matthew 10:22-25, that the church will always and properly be a public relations disaster for many, and that we have become so enslaved to the bland taste of the lost that we are no longer salty.
OF SCARECROWS AND TIN MEN: THE GCR AND
COUNTRY
All you have to do is look at the International Mission Board (IMB) receipts in last year's Lottie Moon Offering. One of the components of the GCR is Article IX, which requires the SBC to consider what a "Most Effective Convention Structure" might be. There may be reasons why we should reconsider the structure of the SBC, at least in part for economic reasons.
The challenges of the future may be much greater than we already foresee. Frank Baum seemed doubtful about the prospects of the future, but at least he could entertain the kids.

But the IMB is not the only vacant position in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) today, nor is it the only position that will facilitate Southern Baptist efforts in the Grand Commission.
