Most English words are made up of a base word known as a root, which contains the essence of the word's meaning. The concept of a word is therefore very demanding and difficult to define, structural words as function words include: articles, prepositions, pronouns, conjunctions and auxiliary words, which belong more to the grammar of the language, while meaning words are known as content words and include nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs and refer to the meaning of elements. But if people have enough vocabulary, it will be easier for them to learn a new language and understand the meaning of the language itself.

Knowledge of morphemes and affixes (prefixes, suffixes) is a part of academic English that can increase students' performance to expand such words, appendages (associated affixes) are added either at the beginning or at the end of the word. Based on the above problems, the purpose of the study was to find out: The students' ability to use English affixation by changing adjective to noun abstract of third semester students in the English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. The researcher hopes that this result of the study can enrich the students' knowledge about affixes and provide more reference about affixes and its application in their study.

The result of the research can hopefully be a useful input for the teachers to conduct sample research on the language teaching students, especially in the analysis of the suffixes about changing from adjective to abstract noun. The researcher has narrowed down the problem of the research so that the problem being investigated is not too broad and the research can be studied effectively. Yuwaida (2013) found that the types of affixes and the data of this study consists of 310 English affixes prefixed with 'in-', which changes the meaning.

Akkasumas xumura "-s" kan yeroo ammaa agarsiisu, xumura "-ed" kan maqaa gara gochaatti jijjiiru, xumura "-ly" kan maqibsi gara gochimaatti jijjiiru, xumura "-er" kan a jijjiiru gochima gara maqaatti, fufiin "-ment" jijjiira, kunis gocha gara maqaatti jijjiira, "-ness" dabalata. Gabaabumatti, hiikni xumuraa madda deetaa keessatti fayyadaman jijjiirama gita gosa agarsiisa. Xumura xiinxala kanaa irratti qorataan kun jecha tokkotti maxxansa dabaluun yookaan hiika jecha jiruu irratti dhiibbaa akka qabu xumureera.

In addition, Twain is the study of the internal structure of words, and of the rules by which words are formed, morphology. According to Huseyin Oz in linguistics, morphology is often defined as the study of the internal structure of words and the rules governing the formation of words in a language, the mental system involved in word formation, as well as a branch of linguistics that examines words . , their internal structure and how they come about. These morphemes can be added to the beginning (before) or the end (after) of the root word.

For example, in English, the inflectional suffixes – ed and -s are past tense and plural. Inflectional morphemes are (bound) morphemes that create a different form of the same word, so that it does not change either the part of speech or the meaning, but only improves and provides additional grammatical information about the already existing meaning of the word.

The researcher gave the students a paper test on addition when changing an adjective into an abstract noun. Thus, the highest possible scores of the students are 100 and the lowest possible score is 0. The researcher's finding relates to the result of the data analysis on the ability of the students to use English affixation when changing adjectives in noun summary.

The result of the ability of students to change the surname to noun abstract in the third semester Muhammadiyah University of Makassar English Department students in the academic year 2018/2019 on Tuesday 4 December 2018 is filled in the table below. The students were asked to answer the question under the passage to assess their individual achievement with the worked test. See the table below the result and qualification of the student test result for the third semester students of the Department of English at Universitas Muhammadiyah of Makassar of the academic year 2018/2019.

There was 1 student (3%) whose qualifications were very poor or students cannot answer the test. From the percentage, the average score was calculated by dividing the sum of all the students in the sample. This is shown students' ability to use English affixation to change adjective to noun abstract is quite good.

To find out how well the students are able to turn adjectives into an abstract noun, students can turn the adjective into an abstract noun by adding appropriate suffixes, such as ness, ity, ty, ence/ance, cy and th (Reichel, Karl: 6-147). Based on the above description, the researcher assumed that the purpose of this study was to know how the students are able to use English affixation when changing from adjective to abstract noun. Then, in my research, based on the discovery that the students have the ability to change adjective into abstract noun is quite good.

Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concluded that the students' ability to use English affixation when changing from adjective to abstract noun in the English department of the third semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar academic year 2018/2019 was quite good. . It was proved that 23 (76%) students have good ability and 7 (24%) students have no good ability to change adjective into abstract noun, and the result of the average score of all students is 71.33 and this is a pretty good qualifier. Based on the final score of the students' ability to turn adjective into an abstract noun, the researcher used seven qualification categories: excellent, very good, good, fairly good, fair, poor, and very poor.

It can be concluded that the students have quite good abilities to change adjectives to abstract nouns. For students to improve their ability to change word to another word, especially in adjective to noun abstract.
