FINDING AND DISCUSSION
Finding
- Omission
- Addition
- Misinformation
- Misordering
Omission is a type of error that occurs because students do not place an item that should appear in the sentence. The findings are set out in table 4.1. As seen in the table above, some students did not put the linking verb in the sentences. This is the type of error that occurs because students put additional items that should not be added to the sentence.
From the data presented in the table above, it can be seen that some students also made the wrong placement of the adverb. It is incorrect because in the simple present tense the adverb must be at the end of the sentence.
Discussion
Addition is the opposite of omission, which means that it is a type of error that occurs because students place the extra items that should not appear in the sentence. Misinformation is a type of error in which students use the wrong form of morpheme or structure. Regularization is a type of error where students substitute the irregular form for the regular form.
Inflection is the error that occurs because students cannot choose a correct verb and grammar. Misordering is a type of error that occurs because students cannot arrange the sentence in order. In this case, students cannot put the subject, adjective and adverb in the right place.
Based on the above finding, this study is similar to the first previous study conducted by Masruddin (2019) in omission error as a common student error. From these results, it can be concluded that some students still have difficulty using the simple present tense to write descriptive text correctly. The research finding showed that the students made 91 mistakes when using the simple present tense to write a descriptive text.
According to the research result, the researcher wants to give recommendations to students, teachers and further researchers. First, the researcher suggests that students should regularly write a text in order to improve their writing ability. Also, students should pay attention to grammar rules to minimize mistakes in writing a text or sentence.
Secondly, the researcher suggests that the teacher should teach English. The students are given some writing exercises and guided in using the simple present tense to correctly write descriptive text.
