Judul Skripsi: An Error Analysis of Students' Sentence Structure in Descriptive Paragraphs Based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy of Third Semester Students of English Department in Makassar Muhammadiyah University. The data analysis used to identify and classify the sentence structure errors based on surface strategy taxonomy. The result of this study showed that: (1) type of sentence structure errors in simple sentence based on surface strategy taxonomy made by third semester students of English Department of Makassar Muhammadiyah University were omission, addition, malformation and wrong order. 2) the students made a total of 161 mistakes in their writing.

The important thing about writing for the students is to express their feelings and produce their own language on the paper. There are some purposes of writing that many experts have explained, according to Ur (1991) "The purpose of writing, in principle, is the expression of ideas, conveying a message to the reader. Diestch (2003) states that "The general purpose of writing can be primarily to inform, to persuade, to express and to entertain.
For example “In the afternoon everyone can enjoy watching the sunset at Losari Beach” The correct sentence should be “In the afternoon everyone can enjoy watching the sunset at Losari Beach”. Then, Hogue (2008:10) himself gives a clear explanation for the definition of sentence, he defines a sentence is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. This means that every person through writing will be able to convey information, ideas and messages to others. There are some types of writing text taught in English education in Indonesia; one of them is descriptive text. Descriptive writing is the clear description of people, places, things or events using appropriate details.
The details used are usually sensory and chosen to describe what the writer sees, hears, smells, touches and tastes. It is related to Oshima and Hogue (2007:61) that descriptive writing appeals to the senses by telling how something looks, feels, smells, tastes and sounds. Descriptive text should be vivid and detailed because something being described is special and the writer should be able to take the reader into his experience.
Further, Oshima and Hogue argue that a good description is a word picture; the reader can imagine an object, place or person in their mind.

The researcher found 54 Omission type errors (Om), 24 Addition type errors (Ad), 72 Malformation type errors (Mf), 11 Misorder type errors (Mo). For example "Losari Beach, one of the destinations you can visit while in Makassar city". The correct sentence should be "Losari Beach is one of the destinations you can visit while in Makassar City".
The correct sentence should be "There are many people who hang out in losari beach with some reasons". The third example "Losari beach I think very clean" it should be "I think losari beach is very clean". Another example "Losari beach I think very clean" it should be "I think losari beach is very clean".
