Thesis: Application of predict-observe-explain method to improve the speaking ability of 2nd year students at SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala Supervised by Sulfasya and Nurdevi. This research investigated students' speaking ability using the Predict-Observe-Explain method for second-year students at SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala. Based on the results, the researcher concluded that the use of the Predict-Observe-Explain method could improve the students' speaking accuracy of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala in that the mean score of the pre-test was 3.95, it was classified as fair and the post-test was 5.94 , it was classified as very good, and the percentage of improvement between pretest and posttest was 51.28%.

The result of the data analysis showed that there is a significant difference between students' speaking ability and the Predict-Observe-Explain method. Thesis: Application of Predict-Observe-Explain Method in Improving Speaking Skills of Second Year Students of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala under the guidance of Sulfasya and Nurdevi,. This research studied students' speaking ability using the Predict-Oserve-Explain method of the second year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala.

Based on the finding, the researcher concluded that the use of Predict-Oserve-Explain method could improve the students' speaking accuracy of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala, as the mean score of the pre-test was 3.95, it was rated as fair and the post-test was 5.94, classified was as very good, and the percentage of improvement between pretest and posttest was 51.28%. The result of the data analysis showed that there is a significant difference between students' speaking ability and the Predict-Observe-Explain method.

Based on the statement above, the author would like to research the effectiveness of using Predict-Where-Explain method that can be used by teachers to improve their ways of teaching and help students to have a better understanding in learning to speak English. The researcher conducts a research on "Prediction-observation-explain method in improving speaking ability of the second year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala". Based on the background above, the researcher investigated the effectiveness of using Predict-where-explain method to improve the speaking skill is the main focus of this research.

In order to investigate effectiveness, the researcher must ask the following research question. This research aims to find out the effectiveness of using the Predict-Observe-Explain method in teaching to improve students' ability to speak English. The result of the research is expected to be useful in teaching and learning to speak, hoping that the use of the Predict-Observe-Explain method can motivate students to learn English.

This study was limited to using the Predict-Observe-Explain method to improve the speaking skills of the students of the second year student of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Hypothesis

Null Hypothesis (H0): Using the Predict-Observe-Explain method is not effective in improving the accuracy of students' speaking skills. Alternative hypothesis (H1): using the Predict-Observe-Explain method is effective in improving students' speaking accuracy.

The independent variable of the research was the Predict-Oserve-Explain method, which was effective in improving students' speaking ability in English, and the dependent variable was improving the speaking ability of accuracy. The researcher gave a brief explanation to the students about speaking and using the Predict-Observe-Explain method. Determining students' mean scores both pre-test and post-test.

In this part the researcher describes the students' score before and after the test in Speaking Ability. The table below shows the distribution of students' average speaking ability score on speaking accuracy. Data analysis showed that students' mean score improved from pre-test to post-test.

And students' scores in the posttest improved after teaching speaking precision using the Predict-Observe-Explain Method, where the improvement in students' speaking ability performance was 51.28%. Based on the data analyzed above, the researcher concluded that there were significant improvements in the speaking ability of the students through the predict-observe-explain method. In other words, the use of the Predict-Observe-Explain method was effective in developing students' ability to speak accuracy in 2nd year students at SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala.

The description of the data collected using speaking test explained in the previous section showed that the students' speaking accuracy increased in the post-test on speaking. This was supported by the frequency and rate percentage of the results of the students' pre-test and post-test. The students' speaking ability improved in the post-test, which can increase the speaking ability of the students.

However, the Predict-Observe-Explain Method is a good way that can be used to improve students' speaking skills. Students' speaking ability through problem activities (a study on third year students of SMP Negeri 1 Takalar).

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Discussion

The description of the data collected using speaking test explained in the previous section showed that the students' speaking accuracy in pre-test on speaking was fairly categorized. It indicated that after treatment by using Predict-where-Explain method the students achieve better performances and the researcher knew in the application of treatment, the student's attention is focused on learning and how to understand the lesson. The application of the Predict-Observe-Explain method is to encourage students to learn speaking skills.

This is a line related to Sattars (2007), who found that through discussion, students can share their knowledge to increase speaking skills. The result of calculating the average score of the indicators was the student's speaking ability. This method could help the students develop their speaking skills in the teaching and learning process.

The researcher gave the students opportunity to express their opinion and this can help the students to focus on any subject, thus the students more active than the researcher. Based on the findings of the previous chapter, the researcher wants to draw a conclusion that Predict-Take-Explain method can develop the Speaking Ability of the Second Year Students of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala. This means that there is a significant difference in the performance of the second year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala.

The English teacher of the second year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala should give positive suggestions to the students to learn to speak English through the Predict-Observe-Explain method. The English teacher must know how to teach speaking using the Predict-Observe-Explain method. Speaking Skills of the Second Semester of the English Department of Tarbiyah Faculty UIN Alauddin Makassar.

Use the Predict-Take-Explain method to describe your satisfaction on the topic in your own words. Use the Predict-Take-Explain method to describe your expression of displeasure about the topic in your own words. Use Predict-Where-Explain method to express advice about the topic in your own words.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Suggestion

Menyapa siswa dengan ramah ketika memasuki kelas (nilai yang dimasukkan: sopan, peduli. Berikan topik kepada siswa dan minta siswa menggunakan ungkapan untuk mengungkapkan kepuasan terhadap topik tersebut. Berikan topik kepada siswa dan minta siswa menggunakan ungkapan untuk mengungkapkan ketidakpuasan terhadap topik tersebut.

Berikan siswa sebuah topik dan mintalah mereka menggunakan istilah-istilah tersebut untuk memberikan nasihat tentang topik tersebut. Saya sangat senang mendengarnya - Saya sangat bahagia hari ini - Saya sangat senang menerima ini - Sungguh momen yang membahagiakan - Saya sama bahagianya dengan Anda - Saya sangat senang Anda datang - Ini adalah perjalanan yang sensasional. Mengecek kehadiran siswa (nilai yang mendidik : disiplin, tekun) 3. Memberikan motivasi belajar kepada siswa sebelum memulai.

Berikan siswa sebuah topik dan mintalah siswa untuk menggunakan ungkapan perasaan bahagia mengenai topik tersebut.
