This study aims to find out the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning to improve the students‟ speaking skills in term of vocabulary and pronunciation at the eighth grade of SMP Buq‟atun Mubarakah.

This study used experimental research design and used speaking test as the instrument. Before the treatment was given, the researcher conducted pretest to the students in order to find out the prior knowledge of the students at the eighth grade. However, when after the treatment had been given the researcher conducted posttest to find out the significant improvement of the students through score. The research conducted at the eighth grade students of SMP Buq‟atun Mubarakah with the total sample 25 students by using random sampling technique.

Based on findings, it was found that the students‟ speaking ability in terms of vocabulary in pre-test was 1.88 and the mean score of post-test was 4.48. It means that the mean score of post-test was higher that pre-test in term in vocabulary. Therefore, the students‟ speaking ability in terms of pronunciation in pre tes was 2.24 and the mean score of post-test was 4.44. It means that the mean score of post-test was higher that pre-test in term in vocabulary. Moreover, in hypothesis testing it was found that T-test value was greater than T-table (42,5 >

2,060)

Related to the improvement above, the researcher concluded that the students‟ speaking ability can be improved effectively by using Project Based Learning. Project Based Learning in learning process was relax, easier and fun particularly in speaking. The students‟ also were more cheerful and active to follow the class. They could do all their activity together and they could share information each other.
