Background

Oats are cereals that are a source of carbohydrates. Oats are good for health because they contain higher fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals and are rich in nutrients. Oats can be used as a food ingredient in products such as bread, ready-to-eat breakfast cereals, and snack bars. Oats can be processed into wheat bran and fiber to obtain a high fiber fraction that can be used in various food products.

Why are oats used as a healthy snack?

Oatmeal is a food made from oats, different from wheat. Oats are processed in their whole form while retaining fiber and husk.

Oats contain more than 50

nutrients that the body needs,

including carbohydrates, fiber,

fat, protein, vitamins B1, B2, B3,

B5, and B9, calcium, magnesium,

folate, phosphorus, manganese,

potassium, and iron.

Spinach One of the best dietary recommendations for people with hypertension is Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH). Food bars are products generally made with various ingredients, such as cereals or nuts, then formed into a solid and compact form.

Potential ingredients that

support the diet are

bananas, oat, and spinach.

Fruit bar is a convenient and concentrated food product that has high nutritive value with a longer shelf life as compared to fresh fruits. In addition, fruit bars can deliver high dietary fiber, proteins, carbohydrates, micronutrients, and many other bioactive compounds to the human body which are necessary to meet the daily requirements of the body. Fruit-based cereal bars are more popular among consumers due to their balanced nutritional content and convenience. It is a good source of dietary fiber especially beta-glucan, minerals, and other nutrients. Oat and oat by-products have been proven to be helpful in the treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular disorders.

The fiber in oatmeal is able to bind bad cholesterol (LDL) in the intestines. The unique fiber content called beta-glucan in oatmeal is known to play an important role in lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) which is one of the triggers of heart attacks. Oats are also rich in antioxidants called avenanthramides, which are not found in other grains. Researchers believe that several mechanisms in the body are responsible for lowering cholesterol. That is why oatmeal can be used as a healthy food choice for the prevention of heart disease. One of the processed food products made from oats is oatmeal cookies.

Oat milk is extracted from oat by adding water and salt, which extract these lipid bodies along with proteins. Oat milk is cholesterol and lactose-free in comparison to bovine milk.

Oat milk contains probiotics. Probiotics are living microbes that impart their health benefits on gastrointestinal tract infections, betterment in lactose absorption, antimicrobial activity, anti-mutagenic properties, decrease in blood cholesterol level, immune system stimulus, anti-cancer & anti-diarrheal properties, betterment in inflammatory bowel disease, and many more. Oats can be processed into healthy and safe snacks for consumption by people of all ages.
