Although the North American Sesiidae (=Aegeriidae) are best known through the revisions of Beutenmuller (1901) and Engelhardt (1946), the contributor of the largest number of names in the North American fauna was Henry Edwards. The type material was deposited in the collection of the Boston Society of Natural History, where it was fortunately examined by Engelhardt before the publication of his revision. DISCUSSION: The "university grounds" mentioned in the original description refers to the campus of the University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois.

DISCUSSION: Because of the better condition of the first syntype listed above, the male syntype in NMNH dated "May has been selected, labeled, and is currently designated as the lecto-type. DISCUSSION: The other four specimens presumed to be in type series were not found The male syntype in NMNH is in good condition and has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype.

The NMNH syntype is specific with refulgence Hy. Therefore, the female syntype in AMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. DISCUSSION: There is a discrepancy between the date given in the publication and the date on the label. DISCUSSION: The first male syntype in AMNH listed above has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype.

Therefore, the male syntype in AMNH was selected, labeled and currently designated as lectotype.

Zenodoxus canescens race bexari Engelhardt, 1946:200

Because labeling errors have been noted in other species, we assume that the locality, Arkansas, is incorrect and that this specimen is the syntype. Furthermore, his original description of the species is a male rather than a female as stated.

However, I believe (based on the specimens in the British Museum) that it is a native of North America. DISCUSSION: Since it is our policy to select the male whenever possible, the male syntype in the BMNH has been selected, labeled, and referred to as the lectotype.

The male syntype in BMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as lectotype. DISCUSSION: The female syntype in AMNH was selected, labeled and designated as lectotype. The female syntype labeled "type" in AMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as lectotype.

DISCUSSION: The male syntype in the AMNH was selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. T he above male syntype in the AMNH has been selected, labeled and is designated as the lectotype. To avoid possible confusion in the future, the female syntype in the AMNH has been selected, labeled and is designated as the lectotype.

Therefore, the male syntype in AMNH has been selected, labeled and is designated as the lectotype. The female syn-type in AMNH labeled "Type" has been selected, labeled, and designated as the lectotype. The first male syntype in AMNH with the handwritten type label has been selected, labeled; and is designated as the lectotype.

DISCUSSION: Since Hulst states that the female was lost, the male syntype in AMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. Because of the more complete labelling, the first female syntype in the BMNH listed above has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. The male syntype in NMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype.

The first male syntype in the AMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. The first female listed above in NMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. The female syntype in AMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype.

The first female syntype in NMNH listed above has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. DISCUSSION: The male syntype mentioned by Edwards could not be found; therefore, the female syntype in the NMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype.

SYNTYPES EXAMINED: 6 (4, AMNH, 2, NMNH)

Therefore, the male syntype in the NMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. HOLOTYPE: Male, in NMNH: "Pyrrhotaenia subaerea Hy. 34; Type. - Only three fairly worn examples are available. The other female paratype he mentions from Kansas is not in the NMNH collection.

Therefore, the first syntype in the NMNH, which is in the best condition, has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. The above male syntype in the NMNH has been selected, labeled and referred to as the lectotype. to whom I dedicate this excellent species with great respect.". The first female syntype in the NMNH with the Hy. Edwards type label has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype.

DISCUSSION: Refer to the relevant statement in the "Introduction". my type is in U. 34; Remarks.—The species and male and female allotype were collected in combination by Howard Natman in Keene Valley, Adirondacks, N.Y., July. 34;Remarks.—Only the type and three female paratypes in the United States National Museum. DISCUSSION: The other two females were not found; therefore, the above female syntype in AMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as lectotype.

DISCUSSION: Three specimens are indicated in the original description, but only one can be found. To avoid possible future confusion, the female syntype in the BMNH has been selected, labeled and designated as the lectotype. DISCUSSION: Since Vancouver Island was listed first as a locality in the original description and the second listed specimen is in good condition, this male syntype in AMNH has been selected, labeled, and designated as the lectotype.

Male and female, in the author's collection at the Brooklyn Museum, Co-type male U.S.N.M., Co-type female William Barnes Collection." In the United States National Museum." The date on the specimen labeled "type" does not match the dates listed in the original description, and no specimens in the Engelhardt collection bear the latter dates. To avoid possible confusion in the future, the syntype marked "Type" in the NMNH has been selected, labeled and is designated as the lectotype.

DISCUSSION: Here it is assumed that Edwards was wrong in determining the sex of the types. The first female syntype in the AMNH labeled species has been selected, labeled and currently designated as the lectotype.
