According to Brown, one of the biggest challenges students face when learning to speak is the fear of saying something stupid, offensive, or inappropriate. Fear of negative evaluation is feeling anxious about other people's evaluations, avoiding situations in which they are evaluated, and expecting negative evaluations from others. Leary, ―A Brief Version of the Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale,‖ Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin 9, no.

Leary mentions some factors that contribute to students' fear of negative evaluations in speaking performance:33. The researcher used journals, articles, books and previous studies related to fear of negative evaluation. What are the factors that cause the fear of negative evaluation in speaking performance in SMK PGRI 2 Ponorogo. It aimed to find out the factors that cause the fear of negative evaluation in speech performance.

The general data describes a general description of the school, which includes history, vision, mission, goals, profile, organizational structure, teachers, staff, students and infrastructure. Pirngadi, B.A which was formerly known as STM PGRI Ponorogo and took place at SD Keniten 1 and SD Keniten 2 which was used to study theory while for practical it was done at ST Negeri Ponorogo (SMPN 5 Ponorogo). In 1990, the location of the school was moved from SD Keniten to ST Negeri Ponorogo, then moved again to its own land, which was built in Kertosari Village, Babadan, Ponorogo, to be exactly south of the Buana Snow Ice Factory.

The total number of students in SMK PGRI 2 Ponorogo in the academic year 2022/2023 is 2,520 both male and female students. There are 906 students in tenth grade, 675 students in eleventh grade and 939 students in twelfth grade.58.

In this institution, the educational infrastructure includes: School Facility SMK PGRI 2 Ponorogo has facilities to support learning facilities, including theoretical, practical and laboratory buildings, as well as other forms of support such as libraries and places of worship.

This was in accordance with RSAB's statement, according to him a lack of practice and a lack of mastery of grammar were the reasons for the feeling of fear of negative evaluation. From the interview results, it could be concluded that the reason students had factors that caused fear of negative evaluation of speaking performance was that they had a feeling of lack of practice, lack of preparation, lack of vocabulary, fear of being judged by others . were afraid that the topics they discussed would differ from what had been established, were afraid of giving a bad impression, and had problems with pronunciation and grammatical errors.

Discussion

Conclusion

There were eight factors that made students afraid of negative evaluations in speaking performance, such as worrying about what other people would think even when they know it didn't make a difference, often fearing other people who aware of their shortcomings, afraid that others would disapprove of them, afraid that people would find fault, worried about what they might think of them, worried about the kind of impression they make, worried about what what other people think of me, would say or do the wrong things. These eight factors caused fear of negative evaluation in speaking performance, but the most prominent factor chosen by students was that they often worry that they will say or do the wrong thing. The reason that students had factors that caused fear of negative evaluation in speaking performance was because they felt lack of practice, lack of preparation, lack of vocabulary, fear of judgment from others and having problems with pronunciation and grammatical errors.
