INTRODUCTION

Globalization is a process of international integration that occurs due to the exchange of world views, products, ideas and aspects of culture. According to Grew (Lestari, 2018) defines globalization as the expansion of social, political and economic activities beyond borders so that events, choices and actions that occur in a location or region have an impact on society as a whole. The impact of globalization that is visible now is that technology is increasingly sophisticated, everything that is needed is easily obtained (Januarharyono, 2019). As part of a global society, the field of life in Indonesia is also influenced by globalization, which is a phenomenon that is developing in every country on this planet and giving rise to new ideas in various fields with common interests (Setyawati et al., 2021).

For example, cellphones are easy to get with guaranteed quality and affordable prices, even every day there are always changes and additions to the latest versions. This is because the development of the current era of globalization has skyrocketed with many of the latest technological innovations. With so many social media that have sprung up with different versions and functions. So that people are now curious and want to try using various kinds of social media (internet) (Buana & Maharani, 2020). The internet is not only used as a medium for interaction and communication but also as a promotional medium to offer a product and display current trends that are currently developing (Zulkifli, 2021).

In the current era of globalization, we are aware of many influences, both positive and detrimental.

The result or influence of globalization that is currently being felt is the development of increasingly advanced technology, where everything is available (Zai et al., 2022). For example, it's easy to buy a

phone that's high quality and at a reasonable price, and the latest models are constantly being updated.

This is because the current era of globalization is developing so fast and the many new technological innovations that exist. With so many new social media platforms emerging, there are many versions and features. The result is that people are now interested and want to try other types of social media Social media is digital media, according to Mayfield (Aldila Safitri et al., 2021), Examples of how they manifest themselves include social networks such as Facebook, blogs, wikis such as Wikipedia, podcasts, discussion boards, content-based media such as Youtube and TikTok, and microblog (eg Twitter). A collection of Web 2.0-based applications known as "social media" facilitate the creation and exchange of content (Batee, 2019). Everything is internet based. According to a different point of view, defining social media as online material that promotes social interaction and social media that utilizes web-based technologies to turn communication into conversation (Gerung, 2021).

Besides functioning as a forum for interpersonal communication and the growth of social networks, social media is one of the important things for human existence today. The social media platform TikTok will be discussed in this study. According to Fatimah Kartini Bohang (Mufidah & Mufidah, 2021) TikTok, which was created by a developer from China, was first released in September 2016.

TikTok, a music video application and social network launched by Byte Dance Inc., helps the company expand its reach (Hastuti, 2022). customers in Indonesia. TikTok became the most downloaded application during the first quarter (Q1) of 2018 with 45.8 million downloads (Aji, 2018).

This statistic outperforms other well-known programs in 2018 such as YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram (Taubah, 2020).

TikTok is a social media that requires users to submit short videos (15 seconds) of dance moves set to music. Musicians use TikTok to promote their songs by posting video content or lyrics (Pramana &

Aryesta, 2022). The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has blocked this social media since July 3 2018, and during that time many reports of complaints were found against this application. This happens due to the irregularity of TikTok users in producing videos that are not suitable for viewing and copying for millennials or generation Z. Because many children, teenagers and adults use DJ music or the latest dangdut music to make exciting videos currently on TikTok (Elfira, 2022).

However, there's now a lot of content about having fun while learning, whether it's math or something else. Since they might watch educational videos on social media to entertain or educate, this is what makes them (students) happy. They can spend time on social media when they are bored. Everyone can find fun on this social media platform to beat the fatigue or boredom. When people use social media, they can laugh happily. The social networking app TikTok is one of the things that make them laugh. Why? The reason is that TikTok social media users, especially students, can access various videos with various musical expressions. Many educational videos, including ones about math, are available in addition to entertainment videos. This has a significant impact on students' mathematical understanding abilities.

The ability to understand mathematics is an important ability for a student to have (Ariawan & Nufus, 2017). As the statement is translated, mathematical understanding is an important mathematical ability for a student to have in understanding mathematics. NCTM (1989) and the Mathematics Curriculum for SMA (2006 and 2013 KTSP Curriculum) both include understanding mathematics as one of their learning objectives, justifying its significance. This assertion is in line with Hudoyo's assertion (2003) that "The purpose of teaching mathematics is to ensure that knowledge communicated to students can be understood". Successful educational efforts are efforts that bring students to the desired results, namely that they really understand the information provided (Heris Hendriana, Euis Eti Rohaeti, 2017) According to Mayer, understanding is a vital component in learning, therefore learning models need to incorporate key concepts of understanding. Hewson and Thorleyn (Alan & Afriansyah, 2017)

"confirmed that "understanding is an idea that students can digest, allowing them to understand what is meant, communicate these thoughts, and investigate connected alternatives". As a result, understanding anything, especially understanding mathematics is difficult. The school Mathematics

(3)

Study Group lists some examples of understanding in behavior as follows: "Understanding mathematical concepts, rules, principles, and generalizations; transitions from one form of mathematics to another; and following explanations". Understanding mathematics has a key role in the learning process and functions as a foundation for problem solving in both academic and practical contexts. The development of other mathematical skills, such as connection, problem solving, thought, relatedness, representation, critical thinking, and mathematical creativity, is also supported by the capacity for understanding mathematics. (Kamsinah, 2022), argues similarly, the ability to understand mathematics is a force to be reckoned with in a mathematics learning system, especially in finding meaningful mathematical knowledge.

Alfeld (Alan & Afriansyah, 2017), explains that if a student can do one of the following, the student is said to have the capacity to understand mathematics: (1). explain mathematical ideas and facts by using the knowledge he already has about these ideas and facts (2). can quickly draw connections between these many ideas and information (3). incorporating previously established relationships into new endeavors (inside or outside of mathematics) depending on knowledge (4). Discover the mathematical concept that underlies all the hard work to ensure success. Based on the explanation given above, that in this study what is defined as "mathematical understanding" is the basic competence of mathematics, which includes the ability to memorize mathematical formulas and concepts and apply them in direct or analogous situations, measure the truth of statements, and solve problems using formulas and theorem.

When a student studying mathematics is able to comprehend ideas, other mathematical thinking abilities, such as the ability to solve mathematical problems, begin to emerge. Thus, the ability to understand mathematics (KPM) is very important because it is a prerequisite for someone to have mathematical problem solving abilities (KPMM). This is also in line with Sumarmo's view (Radiusman, 2020). Which according to him students must have a strong understanding of mathematics to solve problems in mathematics, other fields, and everyday life. In line with the intention of modernizing mathematics education to meet future demands. now. According to Duffin &

Simson (Putra et al., 2018) students must be able to understand and articulate relationships between concepts to solve problems, reframe previously learned content, apply concepts in various contexts, and build new concepts.

Based on the justifications given, research must be conducted to determine whether the use of social media TikTok during the learning process can affect junior high school students' understanding of fractions in mathematics. This study is needed to serve as a guide for educators, students, and researchers when delivering learning on the TikTok social media platform.

METHOD

The pre-experimental research method with the type of One-Shot Case Study Design was used in this study. If the research group is given treatment and the results are observed, then this design is used.

The treatment is the independent variable, and the results that are really visible are the dependent variable. The following is a description of the research design:

This type of research uses a quantitative methodology to analyze how social media TikTok affects junior high school students' math comprehension capacity in terms of their cognitive style. According to "Quantitative research techniques can be characterized as research methods based on a positivist philosophy, used to analyze certain populations or samples, collecting data using research tools, processing quantitative/statistical data, with the aim of testing established hypotheses" (Sugiyono, 2017). Associative research is used in this type of research. Associative research is a type of research that investigates the relationship between two or more variables. There are independent factors (influenced variables) and dependent variables in this case (influenced variables).

The population and sample in this study were all class VII students of SMPN 1 and SMPN 2, Bandar Khalipah District, for the 2021/2022 academic year, with a total of 225 students. Purposive sampling is the sample approach used in this study. Purposive sampling is a sample selection strategy based on certain criteria (Sugiyono, 2017). The sample size was limited to 100 students from class VII-1 and VII-2. The independent variable in this study is the social media Tiktok (X), while the dependent variable is the ability to understand mathematics (Y). The research tools are tests and questionnaires.

The questions used are essay questions with fractional content, and a questionnaire in the form of a questionnaire on the use of social media TikTok on students' mathematical understanding abilities.

The product moment formula is used to determine the construct validity of the instrument in this study.

Instrument reliability using Alpha Cronbach. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for normality and inferential statistical test homogeneity of variance test for homogeneity of variance, this is done with the aim of proving that two or more sample data sets come from populations with the same variance. In this study, both determination tests and basic linear regression tests were used for hypothesis testing. In this study also calculated the proportion of each item from the two schools.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION Result

The findings of this study seek to ascertain the extent of the influence of social media TikTok on students' mathematical understanding abilities at SMP Negeri Bandar Khalipah District. The tests needed to test the hypothesis, especially the normality and homogeneity tests, are carried out first before evaluating the hypothesis.

Test of normality Test Of homogeneity

SMP 1 SMP2 0,935

0,200 0,200

The table shows the results of the normality test. It can be noted that both variables have a significance value of 0.200 for the influence of TikTok social media on mathematical understanding ability, meaning that the two significant value variables are normally distributed. And based on the results of the homogeneity test used in this study, it can be seen in second colomn below:

Next. the table above shows that, where the p value is > 0.05, the population variance homogeneity test produces a p value = 0.935. Therefore, it can be said that the data studied has a homogeneous distribution. Then a hypothesis test was carried out to see whether the TikTok social media platform had an effect on the dependent variable, namely the level of students' understanding of mathematics at SMP Negeri Bandar Khalipah District.

After carrying out the prerequisite analysis test, the next stage is the linear regression model in this study acts as a hypothesis test. The basic linear regression equation model describes the relationship

(5)

between one independent variable (X) and one dependent variable (Y). The coefficients of the following simple linear regression equations are the results of simple linear regression analysis:

Simple Linear Regression Test Determination Test Results

3,525 0,063 0,045

From the output table above, it shows the coefficient value of the simple linear regression equation, the coefficient I get is the following regression equation:

Y ̂=3.525+0.063 X

According to the regression equation, the constant value is determined to be 3.525. The value of students' mathematical understanding ability (Y) is 3.525 if TikTok (X) is considered as the influence of social media in this study. This is +0.063 for the regression coefficient number. This statistic shows that students' ability to learn mathematics can grow by 0.063 for every 1% increase in the level of social media influence of TikTok (X). Social media TikTok (X) has a good effect on students' learning ability in mathematics (Y), which is indicated by a positive regression coefficient, and the regression equation is Y=3.525+0.063 X.

If a sig value > 0.05 is obtained, then H_o is accepted and H_a is rejected, and vice versa if the sig value is <0.05, then H_o is accepted and H_a is accepted. Based on the simple linear regression test table above, a significant value of 0.034 was obtained which indicates that the social media TikTok has an effect on students' mathematical understanding abilities at Bandar Khalipah Public Middle School for the 2021-2022 academic year. This value is smaller than α = 0.05 or sig < 0.05 or 0.034 <

0.05, which means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.

By trying to show the relationship between each independent variable and the dependent variable independently, the t-test can be used to determine which independent variable has the greatest influence on the dependent variable.

Based on the previous regression equation table, t count (2.144) > t table (2.048). Based on t count > t table, H (0) is rejected and Ha is approved, it can be concluded that social media TikTok has a good effect on students' mathematical thinking abilities at SMP Negeri Bandar Khalipah District, 2021-2022 academic year.

Next Stage the capacity of the independent variable (social media platform TikTok) to explain the dependent variable (mathematical comprehension ability). measured using the coefficient of determination (R2). The R square value of 0.045 (value 0.045) is generated from the square of the correlation coefficient R, namely 0 This.212 0.212 = 0.449, according to the results table of the summary model of determination above. shows how the regression model can be used to show that the independent variable (social media TikTok) has an effect of 45% on the dependent variable (ability to understand mathematics) while other variables outside the research have an effect of 55% on the remaining percentage (100% -45 %). This shows that the researcher's theory is accurate.

In the last stage ie The percentage of items is basically analyzing each item, so far measurement experts have stated that item analysis is an assessment of each item. Following are the results of the percentage of each item on the test at SMP Negeri Bandar Khalipah District

These results show the influence of social media TikTok on math comprehension skills. This shows that the average score of the two schools' test questions is relatively high.

Discussion

Based on the findings of an analysis conducted using the SPSS for Windows 23 information processing method. According to these findings, the social media platform TikTok has a positive impact of 45% on students' ability to understand mathematics. From the results of the basic linear regression test it is known that social media TikTok (X) has an effect on a person's mathematical knowledge ability (Y) because it achieves t count (2.144) > t table (2.048). It was concluded that Ho was rejected or Ha was accepted, or in other words social media TikTok had an effect on the mathematical knowledge abilities of Bandar Khalipah Middle School students. And according to the calculation of the determination test, the value of R square is 0.045 (45%).

This shows how the regression model can be used to show that the dependent variable (ability to understand mathematics) is 45% influenced by the independent variable (social media TikTok). These findings suggest that social media platforms such as TikTok impact people's capacity to think mathematically. Based on this, social media has a small impact but can be seen on the ability of students at SMP Negeri Bandar Khalipah to knowledge of mathematics. The findings of this study corroborate Riska Marini's research. According to research, social media TikTok has a huge impact on the academic success of students at SMPN 1 Gunung Sugih Kab. Central Lampung.

Therefore, this study indirectly supports the hypothesis that students' ability to understand mathematics can also be affected using social media TikTok. This is supported by the social media platform TikTok as we know it, which displays various kinds of videos accompanied by musical genres such as pop, Islamic music, dangdut, and DJs. Social media like TikTok has the power to captivate students so that they unknowingly waste their study time in vain. When kids use TikTok, it might make them happy too. They play this social networking application TikTok, especially when they feel very tired, bored, and irritated, to help them pass their time and relieve their fatigue.

Figure 2. Persentase Test SMPN 1 Bandar Khalipah Figure 3. Persentase Test SMPN 2 Bandar Khalipah

(7)

Therefore, it can be said that students who use social media TikTok may find it amused. Several students who participated in this study claimed that social media can also be harmful to users. One of them is in terms of quota and time used. They will be frustrated if there is no quota because they cannot use this social media when they want. If they spend a lot of time playing or making videos on TikTok.

Thus, this research can be proof that some children spend a lot of time at home playing with their mobile phones and making or watching videos on the social media platform TikTok.

Besides forgetting to do other things, that's what causes people to forget to study. They finally only understood the game he was playing. Many people answered "yes" or "strongly agree" with the statement that "Studying on TikTok makes it more difficult for me to understand the topics that have been taught" in the questionnaire. Given the findings of this study, students should understand that these influences are detrimental to their academic activities and may ultimately impair their capacity to understand mathematics. The presence of this research shows that scholars are aware of whether it is true that social media TikTok can influence students' cognitive arithmetic abilities. And the purpose of this study is to inform students about the impact of social media TikTok on their arithmetic comprehension capacities.

It is unfortunate that the time they spend studying is not used to develop their strong mathematical comprehension skills, but rather to make them feel worse about comprehension abilities. their math is getting worse. As a result, this study reminds people how much time they spend studying. Meanwhile, based on the results of the percentage of each item on the test at SMP Negeri 1, point one has an effect of 22.5%, second item is 21%, third item is 23. .75% and in the fourth point has an effect of 23.75%.

Meanwhile, the percentage score of the TikTok social media influence test on students' mathematical understanding abilities at SMP Negeri 2 Bandar Khalipah District in item one was 19.75%, item two was 23%, item three was 22.5%, and item four had an effect of 22.5%. This shows that the two schools obtained a fairly good percentage of test item scores.

CONCLUSIONS

It can be concluded that TikTok social media has an influence on students' mathematical understanding abilities at SMP Negeri Bandar Khalipah District. According to the findings, the social media platform TikTok has a beneficial impact of 45% on students' ability to understand mathematics.

As shown by the results of the summary model determination test, the R square value of 0.045 (value 0.045) is derived from the correlation coefficient R' square, namely 0.212 0.212 = 0.449. This shows how the regression model can be used to show that the independent variable (social media TikTok) has a 45% influence on the dependent variable (ability to understand mathematics), and the remaining 45% is influenced by other variables outside this research by 55%. This shows that the use of the TikTok application does not always have a bad influence on students, but the TikTok application can also be used as a tool or material for other learning. In the end, it can be said that social media TikTok has an impact on a person's ability to understand mathematics.
