If your article includes color figures, please read this letter explaining the costs associated with color reproduction.
• Color figures in printed articles are charged at the rate of $653 per 1 printed color page. The total color cost for your article will depend on the number of color figures in your article as well as their placement. (See below for more detail.)
• Color figures in online-only articles are provided free of charge. If you are unsure whether your article is designated to be in print or online only, please refer to the Instructions for Authors or contact the editorial office at [email protected].
When you receive the proof for your article, you will be able to calculate the total color cost by multiplying the number of color pages by $653. At that stage, please identify which figures should be printed in color and send us your confirmation in writing (by email) within 2 business days. If we do not receive your confirmation of the color cost, the figures will be published in black and white.
Factors that influence figure placement: Our printer will place as many color figures on the same page as possible, but figures must conform to the journal’s specifications. Figures must be sized so that important details are visible and small fonts legible. For the sake of readability, the journal’s style requires that figures appear in sequential order after their first mention in the article and that a minimum quantity of text or space separate figures from each other. The printer’s ability to move figures at the proof stage is limited.
Other publication fees: Costs associated with publication can include color costs, page costs, and fees for exceeding the page limit defined in the Instructions for Authors. Please refer to the
“Costs to Authors” section of the Instructions for Authors on the journal website. An invoice will be sent to the corresponding author at approximately the time the issue is published. If the cost will be covered by your institution, please provide a purchase order for the cost.
