Camp Suffolk April the 5th 1863 I now seat my self to write a fiew lines to you to let you kno that I am alive and injoying prety good health I am well with the exception of a soar mouth I call it the canker it has been soar for six weeks or more it bothers me about eating and I reather gro poor on it I wish I had sum gool threat the Doctor let me have sum medason for it but it does no good we are having a cold snowy time here now we have had no march cince the battle at the Desurted House the Rebbs are talking of makeing an atact here soon we will give them a harty welcom if they try it we are well fortefyed and hav got as big gunns as they can bring I had rather fight them here than to go out and hunt them up to fight them as we did before [2]

the Boys from Ward are all well I got a letter last night from George C Hayse or Hayes and started an answer to it this morning. they hav comme nced paying our Regt they payed three companys day before yesterday I do not kno how soon our Co
