Modern Thought of Photovoltaic Technology in the Implementation of Transit Oriented

1 Introduction

To support the implementation and use of Transit Oriented Development, the researchers will propose the use of photovoltaic technology as a concept of the use of renewable energy. The use of this technology will cover in the use of electricity for the transportation within the area of Jakarta Old Town, which in this case is; the researchers will propose a tram as a public transport, and the use of lighting for night use. By integrating these two field studies of electrical engineering (control system) and architecture (urban planning), the researchers will try to provide a conceptual idea that can be used as a pilot project to develop a concept of Transit Oriented Development based on photovoltaic technology to implement.

3 The concept of transit oriented development

By integrating these two fields of electrical engineering (control system) and architecture (urban planning), the researchers will try to provide a conceptual idea that can be used as a pilot project to implement a concept of Transit Oriented Development based on photovoltaic technology. condition of Jakarta Old Town area, and will promote the alternative solution by providing the concept of Transit Oriented Development within the area by using a tram to minimize the distance from the area. This is because the condition of the area is relatively far from one attraction to another. This use of a tram will thus make the area more walkable in order to bring the attraction as close as possible to visitors.

The thermal energy that was produced from the sun could be used to produce other energy to meet human needs, such as thermal energy to prepare hot water as a heat source in the heating machine cycle as moving energy. Another advantage of solar energy is the production of electricity using photovoltaic cells. Using electricity from solar energy could become renewable energy in the future.

Some researchers have done and stated that the use of solar energy becomes electricity has minimized the use of electricity. Referring to previous research by Purwantiasning, et al. 2017), the use of electricity from solar energy by applying control system technology for Fatahillah Museum, one of the historical buildings in the old city of Jakarta, can be maintained and minimized. According to this, the researchers will propose the use of photovoltaic technology within the area of the old city of Jakarta.

The implementation of this technology will include the use of the tram as public transport in the area, the use of lighting in the area at night and the use of the lighting in some designated historic buildings in the area. The word solar cell refers to Greek; fotos means light and volta suggests the name of a doctor from Italy who discovered electricity.

5 The area of Jakarta old town

In this chapter, the researchers will discuss the area of Jakarta Old Town, from the physical state to non-physical state. The researchers will also discuss the regulation and planning of the area of Jakarta Old Town as a designated area of conservation. The core zone of the Jakarta Old City is zone 2 which covers the area of Fatahillah Square and the surrounding area.

The lack of infrastructure within the area, which does not support the development of the area: abandoned drainage, lack of pedestrians. On the other hand, there are also some significant strengths of the Jakarta Old Town area as follows [4]. The area of Jakarta Old Town was an international port area during the colonial period, and it became the embryo of Jakarta and the mixed society.

The support of road transport and canal transport infrastructure will widen the area from Jakarta Old Town to Glodok and Pasar Baru. The building, very well known as the Fatahillah Museum, is located at Fatahillah Square, the core zone of Jakarta's Old Town. According to the Jakarta Old Town Master Plan [4], the development of Jakarta Old Town area will include some points to solve the problems in the area.

Referring to all the above mentioned key issues, potentials and the strategy, the researchers could underline that the development of the Old Town area of Jakarta should encompass all aspects from economic, social and community need based activities. Through the observation and literature studies, the researcher stated that the core zone is the best choice to implement the concept of Transit Oriented Development in the Old Town area of Jakarta. The map above shows the streets, pedestrian ways, and the open space and green area in Jakarta's Old Town.

The map above shows the buildings within Jakarta's Old City area with Class A (blue color), Class B (red color), Class C (orange color) and Class D (yellow color). The main principle of development within the area of the old city of Jakarta is the circulation of pedestrians and vehicles, as well as the connection from one point to another. The map above shows the circulation and connections within the Jakarta Old Town area, as outlined in the Jakarta Old Town Master Plan.

According to figure 6, the Master Plan of Jakarta Old City described the connectivity and circulation within the area of Jakarta Old City. Using the regulation and the Master Plan of Jakarta Old Town, the researchers try to propose a design by developing the circulation for visitors using a tram through tourism line between historical buildings in the area of Jakarta Old Town.

6 Conclusion

The above map shows the development of the transit point according to the analysis of Figure 7 Source: Analyze Result, 2017. With the above image (Figure 8), the researchers propose a tram line that will cover the area of the old city of Jakarta using the principle of maximum walking distance (500 meters or 5 walking minutes).

Dan mempertimbangkan kondisi sekitar, apakah titik transit tersebut menarik atau tidak, serta potensi di sekitar titik transit yang dapat dikembangkan sesuai prinsip TOD.
