The biggest rabi pulse crop is bengalgram and this year production is likely to cross 110 lakh MT given the weather and crop conditions so far. New arrival has started in various markets of south India, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, and is expected to start in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from third week of March. As crop size is large, supply would be ample in coming weeks. Price might be seen under pressure despite procurement drive. Government may buy around 2 to 2.5 MMT this year on MSP. Out of total procurement around 9.25 lakh MT would be procured in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, while the rest would be procured in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Supply side would be ample throughout the year. Besides, Bengalgram selling by NAFED at Rs 3950 in Rajasthan and Rs 3900 per qtl in Madhya Pradesh have increased pressure further on cash market.

Under these circumstances, Agricultural Market Intelligence Centre, PJTSAU expect that Bengalgram is likely to trade in price range between Rs. 3700 - 3900 per quintal in the month of March 2020.
