A pandemic is a disease which affects a lot of people and it spreads among people. When the infected person comes in contact with other people, it spreads. In other words a pandemic is a disease outbreak that spreads across cities, states, countries and continents.

Generally a pandemic spreads quickly over a wide area. Covid 19 is a pandemic which has affected lakhs of people all over the world since 2020. Lakhs of people died and lakhs of people got severe impression of this disease. On the one side this pandemic affected directly on the bodies of people and affected their fitness and on the other side it affected people financially. People got huge trouble all over the world due to lockdown which was imposed in most of the countries. Since this pandemic was new, all the governments, officials and system took a long time to understand the situation. Later gradually lockdown was withdrawn with necessary restrictions.

This pandemic has given worst impact on all the sectors whether it is profession of people or their business or their job. This pandemic encircled and affected especially the social life of people, global economy, small business, healthcare, industrial sector, education sector etc. Not only this, it has affected a common man to a rich class person equally. Though, impact of Corona pandemic was seen on different people in different forms. The impact of this pandemic on education sector compelled people, society and organizations to think about rebuilding of educational system.

India is the country where still a big number of population goes to earn their bread daily. Since due to pandemic lockdown was imposed and people were compelled to live at their home, crores of people had to suffer a lot. Education sector and its various fields like commerce, medical science, IT, management, humanities etc. had to underwent many changes in their routine system of education. It was the first time in Indian history when in most of the states when exams were organized whether online or through open book system. Students also had to submit their assignments and projects through online mode and this thing fell down the standard of education as well intellectual.

“It is estimated that the impact of COVID-19 on the Indian economy during 2020 may reach nearly 8.8tn Indian rupees. The pandemic had incurred an enormous loss to the economy and had a staggering impact on global education. According to UNESCO, 63 million

teachers were affected in 165 countries.”

This corona pandemic derailed the education system and its all branches financially, on the one side students and their parents were neither able to pay for online classes nor ready to do that. On the other side those faculty members who took the online classes during pandemic period were getting half or one third amount of salary. While school teachers and especially primary school teachers except a few became totally jobless

because a part from prominent and prestigious schools, no other schools were able to conduct the online classes for their students of primary level.

This pandemic affected a lot the education sector, especially in India many people who were involved in teaching profession in school were jobless. Those who were the single earning member of their family and totally dependent on their job faced the huge trouble.

Online classes also made people jobless as well as it affected the intellectual level of students. Only a few who possessed smart phones were able to attend the classes through online mode but especially those who are below poverty line couldn’t afford an extra smart phone for the studies of their children. Online classes were conducted by prestigious schools and colleges as well as data, network, connectivity, unclear audio/video were the major issues which put barriers for students.

Lockdowns worldwide to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic have posed significant challenges for the education sector globally, and India is no exception. The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdown to contain its spread impacted the education sector unprecedentedly. Besides disruption of an academic year and employment opportunities, the pandemic transformed the centuries-old teaching model, the chalk-talk teaching model, into one that is driven by technology. (https://adtu.in/blogs/covid-19- impact-and-strategies.html)

This pandemic explored the online system of education but it brought several difficulties to people. The online mode of teaching put extra financial burden on students and their parents while many of the students couldn’t adopt this way of learning due to lack of facilities. “While the Covid-19 has made online education the buzzword and the new normal, the ground reality suggests that the Indian internet infrastructure is still far from ready to support the shift. According to a 2019 government survey, only 24 percent of households have access to the internet.” (https://adtu.in/blogs/covid-19-impact-and- strategies.html) This mode of teaching and learning compel people to make availability of extra data pack, separate smart phone for all school/college going siblings in a family. This compulsion of online learning and teaching also became the cause of rise in the price of laptops/desktop/mobile phones.

On the other side, pandemic affected the education and intellectual level of students due to promotion of students in next classes and open book exam system. This thing not only stopped separation process of week students but also created a tough competition, since due to promotion or open book system the weak and weaker students got equivalent marks without hardwork.

The education sector of India due to pandemic and lockdown caused major interruption in students learning. The survey conducted by UNESCO on education system of India observed that in both schools and colleges 32 crores students are affected in India.

The structure of learning, teaching assessment and schooling, was affected by the shut of education system. Pandemic has also given negative impact on the financial structure of education sector. In India, jobless teachers had to shift their profession due to pandemic and its ill effects. It also affected the financial stability and savings of families, till long time institutions remained close but parents had to pay for exam fee, online classes fee, while they were not at work. Many schools/institutions/coaching centre owners had to close their centre permanently, since they were not able to earn while they had pay to their teaching and non teaching staff. In India, lakhs of the schools are run in the buildings or premises which are taken on rent, two years of back to back lockdown broke their financial backbone. After suffering and struggling a lot, they had to take decision to shut their institutions and proceed towards other professions.

Thus pandemic not only gave the negative impact on human lives but also on economy, social life, intellectual level and professional life of people. The loss which the education sector and its all branches have got can never be compensated till many years.

The batches of students passed out in covid batches will also have to suffer in their professional life.
