Health Care

Nethra jyothi: 15 eye camps were organized through Nethra Jyothi during the month wherein 1541 patients were tested and free cataract surgeries were performed on 59 eligible beneficiaries. One camp out of the above 15 camps was organized at Gajuwaka which was inaugurated by Shri Palla Srinivasa Rao, MLA Gajuwaka wherein 97 people were screened for cataract.

Education

Arunodaya Special School: Mr.MNDRK Chaitanya, a student of Arunodaya Special School, a flagship initiative of RINL-CSR, participated in National Games for all disabled held at Nagpur and won Gold medal in the aquatics (swimming) competition.

“Shiksha”: With a strong belief that education is a catalyst for social change, free education is being provided to around 1750 children belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families from the surrounding villages of Plant & Mines. The project creates a tangible impact in the lives of the economically disadvantaged since majority of the beneficiaries of this project are first generation learners.

“Pathashala ki Aabharanam”: With a view to address the infrastructural deficit in the schools, RINL has provided 220 three seater dual desks to Zilla Parishad High school, Chandrampalem, Visakhapatnam. The dual desks were handed over to school Head Master for utilization.

“Chethana”: The six month Adult literacy programme for providing basic education for adults who have lost the opportunity and crossed the age of formal education taken up at 15 centres located in surroundings villages of Plant & 5 tribal villages of Visakhapatnam District for 500 beneficiaries has completed. Certificates were awarded to those who completed the course successfully.

Environment

Green Visakha: Block plantation of 75000 saplings has been taken up under Green Visakha project at two venues Gangavaram (30000) and Lemarthi (45000).

Sanitation

Swachh Vidyalaya: Maintenance of 86 toilets constructed under “Swachh Vidyalaya”has been taken up through Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) Govt. of AP and MoU has been executed with SSA to carry out the maintenance of the toilets through School Management Committees.

 Drinking water is supplied to the residents of four Rehabilitation colonies of VSP i.e.

Agnampudi, Gangavaram, Pedagantyada & Vadlapudi, Every day 75,000 liters of drinking water is supplied through tankers to the residents of RH colonies.

Swachh Bharat activities were carried out in various Departments of VSP during the Month. Daily Reports on “Swachh Bharat” Campaign received from plant areas are compiled and sent to Ministry of Steel (MOS)

Safai Pakhwada was organized in the Mills (LMMM, WRM, MMSM, RS&RS, STM & SBM) during first fortnight and in CMM, RMD,SSD, St.ED and CMG during the second fortnight of June 2017 respectively. The employees of the above Departments participated in the campaigns with great enthusiasm to bring out visible levels of improvement in cleanliness in their respective shop premises.

Peripheral Development

 Construction of a community hall at Seethanagaram Village, Anakapalli Mandal is in progress.

Roof sheeting work for Hud-hud cyclone affected houses in slum areas of Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation has been taken up through the funds provided by NMDC. The above work is under progress in GVMC wards.

Cashless Transaction Awareness

10 (Ten) Cashless transaction awareness sessions have been conducted at CSR project venues of Adult literacy programme, eye camps, Roof sheeting works etc. during the month and covered 619 beneficiaries. Further the impact of digital transactions was studied in township in two sectors and presented the outcome to the Top Management.
