Seminar
A seminar on “Recent Trends in Advanced Structural Analysis" was organized on 23rd December, 2013 at Narula Institute of Technology. This event was organized in
collaboration with American Society of Civil Engineers-India Section, Eastern Region.
The main speakers are:
• Prof. Goutam Dasgupta, Professor, Department of Civil
Engineering & Engineering Mechanics, Columbia University, USA
• Prof. Amit Shaw, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
• Prof. Arun Kr. Bhattacharya, Ex Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering, Jadavpur University
Prof. Goutam Dasgupta outlined historically, the development of Civil Engineering to date and how the knowledge of civil engineering has smoothened the path for development of human society. He had given a glimpse on cutting edge research in the field of Engineering Mechanics.
Prof. Amit Shaw briefed about the method of failure analysis with Extended Finite Element Method, Mesh Free method and specifically on Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). He gave an idea of Fragmentation techniques of Nano- composite armour using SPH.
Prof. Arun Kr. Bhattacharya explained recent trends in Wind Engineering during his lecture on “Wind effects on Buildings & Structures” through examples, diagrams to understand the development of Fluid Mechanics and its application in aerodynamics of buildings & structures and even design of vehicles.

PICTURE PERFECT
"Narula Institute of Technology forming American Society of Civil Engineers International Students Group"
organized an intra-college Bridge Photography Competition similar to Bridge photography competition by ASCE. The photos were submitted only by the ASCE student members from Narula Institute of Technology. So many enthusiastic students have submitted the photographs in due time (Feb 6, 2014).
Sudipta Chandra of 2012-2016 Batch won the competition. The judge of the award was Mr. Sandip Kumar Deb, President, ASCE-India Section, Eastern Region. This event was sponsored by AECOM.
Achievements and News
• Rudraprasad Bhattacharya and Anindya Chowdhury of
2010-2014 Batch were selected as the Faculty Member and the Student Member in the STUDENT LIFE
CENTRE respectively.
•Aditya Deb of 2013-2017 Batch was a part of the dance group that came 2nd runners up at the western group dance competition held at Xavotsav 2014, the annual Cultural meet of St.
Xavier's College, Kolkata.
POWER POINT PRESENTATION COMPETITION
An intra college Power Point Presentation
Competition on “Opportunities in field of Civil Engineering”
was organized by the students on 7th February, 2014. This event is aimed to prepare a presentation which will give an overview of opportunities in civil engineering profession to the Standrad 12 schools students. Each team was allowed with maximum two participants who presented it within 15 minutes. Several students participated in this competition.
Barun Rai and Group of 2012-2016 Batch was the Champion. The prize for the champion was sponsored by AECOM. The judge of the award was Mr. Sandip Kumar Deb, President, ASCE-India Section, Eastern Region.

•The team from our department won the Relay Race in the annual sports meet of Narula Institute of
Technology was held on 11-12th February, 2014 in the main ground of Guru Nanak Institute of Technology.

Visit of President, ASCE India Section-Eastern Region

Mr. Sandip Kumar, President, ASCE India Section-Eastern Region visited our college on 7th February, 2014. Mr. Deb focused on the various levels of preparation that is required to face and successfully overcome the challenges during job interview.
He distinctly focused few important points like professional attire,
punctuality above all attitudes of the job aspirants towards prospective employers. He also advised us about the different trending career
opportunities in present scenario.
After the talk, Mr. Deb visited our department and talked to all faculty members. He discussed few minutes with Rudraprasad
Bhattacharyya regarding the forming ASCE International Student Group at Narula Institute of Technology.
Initiatives to form Student Chapters
Mr. Sadip Kumar Deb, President, ASCE India Section-Eastern Region is discussing about how to prepare for job interviews.
ICE Student Chapter
An initiative to form "Institution of Civil Engineers Narula Institute of Technology Student Chapter" was taken by the students and faculty members of Civil Engineering Department of Narula Institute of Technology.
ASCE International Students Group
The "Narula Institute of Technology forming American Society of Civil Engineers International Students Group" decided to submit the application form for ASCE international Students Group on 13th February, 2014.
Prof, Jagadis Chandra Guha, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Narula Institute of Technology supported the establishment. The application was prepared and submitted by Anindya Chowdhury, the President of the group. Rudraprasad Bhattacharyya was nominated as the faculty advisor.
Prof. G. L. Sivakumar Babu, President, ASCE India Section endorsed the application and assigned Dr. Ayanangshu Dey and Mr. Srirup Mitra as Practitioner Advisors upon approval.

BRIDGE IT
An inter-college Bridge Making Competition. The materials for the model bridges are Popsicle sticks and adhesives. Each group comprised of maximum four numbers.
CAD IT
An inter-college Architectural Design Competition. The participants will be asked to draw plan, elevation and section of the given problem using AutoCAD within a limited timeframe.
CONCREATE
ConCreate is an exciting competition where participants have to create high strength concrete cubes one week prior to the competition.
