In monkeys, it is towards the back of the skull due to their quadrupedal posture. Bipedal locomotion was established in the earliest stages of the hominid lineage, about 7 million years ago, while brain expansion occurred later. The end result of the interaction between genes and culture was a significant acceleration of human evolution about 2.6 million to 2.5 million years ago.
The fossil record provides little information about the evolution of the human lineage during the late Miocene, from 10 to 5 million years ago. However, full acceptance of this classification and the implications of the fossil await further study. Much evidence for the earliest hominids (Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Orrorin tugenensis, Ardipithecus ramidus) is not yet available.
Handax cultures flourished west and south of the line, but only choppers and flake tools were found in the east. Unfortunately, the identity of the hominins responsible (either Homo erectus or the archaic Homo sapiens) is unclear. Although the average beak characteristics in the population will not change in this situation, selection is still taking place.
The theory of evolution suggests that species evolve from races through the accumulation of differences in the gene pools of the separated groups. The ability to think probably played a decisive role in the evolution of the primates that gave rise to humans.
