Cellulose Group @ MSME IITH is working on naturally produced, fermentation-derived cellulosic nanofibrous material - bacterial cellulose - to produce a high-efficiency filter. Bacterial cellulose (BC)-based face masks can have antiviral and antibacterial properties along with a very high filtration efficiency at a very low pressure drop when incorporating suitable antimicrobial agents.
Dr Chandra Shekhar Sharma
The most interesting aspect of this material is the in situ tunability to modulate pore size, porosity and fiber dimensions which helps in improving filtration properties along with reducing pressure drop. In the future, cellulose group strives to develop and scale up these materials at the earliest for the greater societal benefit.
Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering
We are also looking at basic features for depth filters such as permeability and rotation and establishing correlations with filter parameters such as fiber dimensions and porosity.
Compressed Nanofibrous Tablets: An Oral Administration of Amphotericin-B towards the Potential Cure of
Leishmaniasis and Black Fungus
Prof Saptarshi Majumdar
Department of Chemical Engineering
The aim was to increase the drug absorption and reduce aggregation, thereby decreasing the drug toxicity. Since gelatin nanofibers are water-soluble and mechanically weak, we crosslinked the drug-loaded nanofibers with minimal exposure to the aqueous vapor of glutaraldehyde.

From waste to energy - a sustainable technology
In summary, my research work involving low-cost and sustainable high-performance supercapacitor devices from these waste biomass sources is very important in the development of future hybrid energy storage devices. This can pave the way for affordable and sustainable energy storage technologies for use in electric vehicles and other applications.

A facile way of surface texturing of Si{100} using TMAH for Silicon Solar Cells
The etch temperature is varied from 80 to 85 ℃ in 5 ℃ steps for 5 to 40 min etch time, with the etch concentration fixed at 0.5 wt% TMAH. It can be easily noticed that the structures are more uniform and denser, which can be the lowest reflectance at 25 minutes etching time. The AR/VR lab will have top-end development devices such as Hololens 2, Oculus Quest 2 and HTC Vive Pro.
The facility will also have a green room, software and an advanced workstation specifically designed for AR/VR processing and development. The challenges given to the contestant were - from a picture or set of pictures, estimate the height, weight and the unlikely health problem in a child's body. This challenge focused on finding solutions to the problems using photographs of subjects using computer vision, AI/ML and other deep technologies.
The WIN Challenge was launched virtually in the second week of June and received very good responses from students, researchers, academia and entrepreneurs from across the country with solutions.

The Makerlab will have a wide range of machines, such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser cutters, foam cutters, PCB milling machines, electronic equipment, development boards and much more. All winners received cash prizes of up to INR 20,000 and were offered support under iTIC pre-incubation to develop their prototypes. After the preliminary round of screening, the best participants were called for a virtual interview and two winners were selected based on their technical knowledge to solve these problems.

Winners will receive sponsored pre-incubation support for 12 months along with lateral entry into grant schemes. Prof Suryakumar S from iTIC Incubator at IITH and Prof Ramesh Loganathan from CIE IIITH were the panelists at the event. To support NSRCEL IIM Bangalore's Goldman Sachs 10k Women programme, iTIC Incubator and WE Hub Telangana organized a panel discussion targeting women entrepreneurs and women-led startups.
The presenters for the panel discussion were Aruna C, Co-Founder, NumberNagar; Sri Devi Nune, Sr Manager, WE Hub, Govt of Telangana; Priyanka Mandal, Co-Founder, Clan Earth and Ch Saritha, Director, Innomet Advanced Materials Pvt Ltd. The panel discussion was meant to spread awareness of women entrepreneurs and talk about gender relations in the post-covid workplace, balancing the WFH lifestyle as an entrepreneur, the impact of women in developing economies and more.
Innovative Adhesive Nano-formulation Based DuroKea Technology and Long-lasting Next

DuroKea S: Nano-formulation based ethanol surface disinfectant for soft and hard surfaces that are frequently touched such as tables, door handles, chairs, elevators, trash cans, carpets, curtains, sofas and any other dry surfaces. Application of DuroKea S creates a nano-scale coating on the surface and protects for up to 35 days. Applying DuroKea H forms a nano-scale coating on the hand and protects it until you wash your hands or up to 24 hours (whichever is sooner).
DuroKea H Aqua: Nano formulation based long lasting hand sanitizer foam for alcohol sensitive screen and child friendly. Application of DuroKea H Aqua Foam forms a nanoscale coating on the hand and protects it until you wash your hands or up to 24 hours (whichever is sooner). It instantly kills 99.99% of germs, including the COVID-19 virus, and leaves the nanoscale coating on the mask surface for further protection until it is washed or discarded.

Elkemie is working to bring the traditional electrodeposition technique into the domain of nanotechnology and scale it up to an industrially applicable level by producing new-age materials for various potential applications which are yet to be fully exploited, especially in India. Therefore, they focus on introducing new multi-element alloy systems (multicomponent alloys) that can solve a number of challenges and can be an alternative to the existing conventional materials. Electrochemistry derives its existence from the archaic material chemistry field called Alchemy and the nineteenth century started Electrochemistry.
Elkemie's vision is to produce futuristic multifunctional nanomaterials that are directly implementable in the electronics, energy, environmental and healthcare industries. While some of the existing materials are toxic, expensive, suffer from high-temperature instability, difficult to nano-architect, and the majority of them are not multifunctional. With their experience in the electrochemical process, they work on alloy structures, multicomponent alloys, composites in various dimensions and shapes on the nanoscale for various applications.
In addition, they are also working on nanometer-scale antiviral coatings for filtration through a scalable one-step process that no longer requires harmful chemicals, capping agents, etc.

Nanotechnology towards Rebooting Computing IC Design for Edge AI
Dr Santhosh Sivasubramani
MTech, PhD, Department of Electrical Engineering
Cases have already been reported in the scientific literature that electric field and temperature can be individually used to control or induce magnetism. Our group envisioned a processor application using a single-layer zigzag graphene nanoribbon, which could potentially harness the heat generated in the system, reduce the voltage requirement, and perform computations (information propagation) using spins. The need for the reboot of computing has been well established in recent days and especially the focus on the Beyond CMOS computing paradigm.
The international recognition of this scientific contribution in the emerging field of restarting computing further motivates us to conduct translational research from fundamentals to their applications. We are proud to participate in 0.1% contribution of Indian academia to the global IRDS contribution.” Also nominated – INAE Innovative Student Projects Award 2018 for MTech Thesis and also awarded Certificate of Appreciation for Research in Electrical Engineering, IIT Hyderabad for the year 2018.
