1 1. PRODUCTION OF TOMATO:

 The major Tomato producing States in the country are Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand and Punjab. These States account for 97% of the total production of the country. As per the Third Advance Estimates, the production of Tomato during the current year (2016-17) is likely to be 4.3% higher from the previous year (Table-1.2)

 The details regarding seasonality and harvesting period of Tomato crop are given in (Table-1.1)

CURRENT STATUS OF SOWING OF TOMATO:

 The total sown area under Kharif tomato is 110.161 Thousand Ha in the different Kharif tomato growing States. Madhya Pradesh has sown highest area i.e. 25.436 Thousand Ha followed by Andhra Pradesh (18.112 thousand ha), Maharashtra ( 18.030 thousand ha), Karnataka (14.251 thousand ha), Tamil Nadu (12.048 thousand ha), Rajasthan (8.588 thousand ha), Uttar Pradesh (8.489 thousand ha) and Haryana (5.202 thousand ha).

Note: As per 3rd Advance Estimate for 2016-17 Andhra Pradesh is the major Tomato producing State with 12.94% of production share, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal with 11.68%, 11.05%, 7.75%, 6.82%, 6.71%, 6.31% share respectively.

3 2. MONTHLY ARRIVAL:

The All India monthly arrivals of Tomato for five years (2011-2015) along with the monthly arrival of 2016 and 2017 are given in Table-2.1.

4 3. STATUS OF TOMATO MARKETING:

The average weekly, monthly and yearly wholesale and retail prices of tomato in different markets and their variation percentage are given in Table-3.1. The average wholesale monthly prices of Delhi and All India monthly average wholesale prices from January, 2013 to October, 2017 are also given along with graphic presentation in Table-3.2 and Table-3.3 respectively.
