Health Care

‘Nethra Jyothi’: 14 eye camps were organized through Nethra Jyothi mobile eye care van during the month in villages of Visakhapatnam District. 688 individuals were tested and free cataract surgeries were performed on 57 eligible beneficiaries.

 The cochlear implantation for four children with hearing impairment taken up as a CSR initiative was successfully completed. The implant has been activated and they are undergoing speech therapy.

 A van was donated to Association for Urban and Tribal Development managing Night shelters of GVMC through Visteel Mahila Samithi an extended arm of RINL CSR for rescue operations & collection of material. The homeless staying on the foot paths and other areas in the city are identified and provided with food & shelter. They will also be encouraged to do work and earn their livelihood.

Education

Shiksha’: 1750 children belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families from the surrounding villages of Plant & Mines are being provided with free and quality education through the above project.

Chethana: Adult Literacy Programme in 25 centres including the surrounding village of the plant, Mines and tribal villages of Visakhapatnam, is being conducted for 625 adults to improve their literacy levels. A 6 day orientation programme for the teachers of all the centres was also organized during the month.

Skill Development

Saksham: Certificates were awarded to the 320 beneficiaries who have successfully completed the Vocational Training Programmes held in 10 centres located in the surrounding villages of Plant, Mines and the tribal villages of Visakhapatnam.

 Shri PK Mohaparta, GM (L&A), awarded the certificates to the 100 beneficiaries who completed the three month Skill Development Training organised for ‘People with Disabilities (Divyangjan)’ in trades viz. Sewing Machine Operator, Domestic Data Entry Operator, Beauty Therapist and Handset (Mobile) Repair.

Relief during calamities

 73 houses were gutted in a fire mishap in Uppra Colony a peripheral village of the Plant.

RINL being a responsible corporate, situated near to the village, provided immediate relief to the affected families by providing essential items. Director (Personnel) Shri. Kishore Chandra Das, handed over the items to the families in the presence of the AP State Government officials.

Sanitation

 Shri VV Venugopal Rao, Director (Finance) handed over a cheque of Rs 9.39 lakhs to Executive Officer, Simhhachalam Devasthanam for installation a Compost machine at the temple as a Swachha Bharath initiative under the Corporate Social Responsibility of RINL.

This fully automatic and highly compact machine of 250 Kg capacity is capable of processing all kinds of organic waste into compost within 24 hours. This will help in improving the solid waste management at the temple.

 A borewell with a hand pump has been installed at Mangal Thanda a surrounding village of Madharam Dolomite Mines of RINL. This hand pump will be useful for the villagers to quench their thirst especially during the summer months.

 ‘Jaladhara’ : The 4th phase of the flagship CSR project Jaladhara (Water supply scheme through gravity) has been taken up in four tribal villages in Arakku Valley Mandal of Visakhapatnam District . This project will benefit around 620 residents of the four tribal villages

 The project taken up for providing 4 (four) new toilet blocks and renovation of the 2 (two) existing toilet blocks at Pharmacology Department of Rangaraya Medical College (RMC), Kakinada East Godavari Dt. of AP has completed.

 Swachh Vidyalaya: 2nd installment of the Maintenance grant for a period of 6 months for maintaining the 86 toilets constructed under “Swachh Vidyalaya” has been provided to Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) Govt. of AP.

 Swachh Gram: Construction of 52 nos. of individual household toilets taken up in Nadumveedhi a tribal village of Paderu, Visakhapatnam taken up as a part of the comprehensive development of the village has completed.

 Swachh Bharat activities were carried out in various Departments of VSP during the Month.

‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ at RINL: In line with directive of Ministry of Steel Swachhta Pakhwada was observed in RINL during 16th to 31st March 2018. As a part of the pakhwada, various programmes like Swachhta Pledge, Shramdaan in Plant, its mining areas and surrounding communities, awareness programmes for school children, workshop on ‘Disposal of slag and other waste generated leading to zero waste’ etc. were organised.

 ‘Safai Pakhwada’: Fortnight long intensive cleaning drives were organized in the TTI during first fortnight and in Vigilance and Sports Department during the second fortnight of March 2018 respectively.

Bala swachhta Jagruthi: A Sanitation awareness programmes was conducted at ZP High School, Gangavaram, Visakhapatnam district, wherein the importance of personal hygiene cleanliness and was explained through audio visual medium. Around 230 children were covered in the above programme.
