The Department of Visual Arts was established in 1996. Assam University is the first among the North Eastern Universities to offer four year BVA (2 Semesters Foundation + Six Semesters specialization) in Applied Arts, Paintings and Sculpture. The Department has developed its audio-visual facilities for class room teaching. The Department along with the task of documentation of folk art, is also trying to train the student in the field of New Media art, Installation, Digital Art, Video Art etc. to compete with the contemporary art scenario. The Department also have UGC sanctioned 'Special Assistance Programme' (DRS-II) to the department.

The Department of English at Diphu Campus of Assam University had its inception in 2007. It offers Post Graduate Course in English as well as M.Phil and Ph.D. programs with Course Work. The academic activities of the Department includes special lectures by faculty experts invited from other institutions besides organizing Seminars, Conferences and Workshops from time to time. The Department has Supervisors for M. Phil and Ph. D and a number of scholars have already been awarded Ph. D and M.

Phil degrees. Many students of the Department have qualified for UGC NET/SLET and other competitive examinations and the placement rate is encouraging. The Department offers guidance for NET/SLET as also career counseling.

Candidates who have passed TDC examination with at least 40% marks can apply for admission. Selection will be done on the basis of the marks secured in the qualifying examination as well as on the performance in the Written Test and Personal Interview.
