The Institute has continually adjusted and improved its policies, plans and programs to effectively respond to the nation's needs and opportunities. The institute's main functions cover the areas of basic research and applied research in the main branches of agricultural science; postgraduate education at M.Sc., M.Tech. The administrative control of the Institute is vested in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), which is an autonomous organization established under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The current campus of the Institute is a self-contained complex spread over an area of approximately 500 hectares. Since its early days at Pusa, the Institute has done pioneering work in various areas of agricultural sciences. The Institute has expanded enormously in its activities, research facilities and scientific staff in the years since independence.
The various departments of the institute consist of many highly qualified and experienced scientific personnel. In 1923, the training program was put on an organized basis as a two-year course of specialized post-graduate training in various major fields of agricultural sciences, leading to the affiliation of the Institute (Assoc. IARI). Currently, the classes leading to postgraduate studies at the Institute are organized in twenty-six subjects (disciplines).
In case of any change in the number of seats, the same will be posted on the Institute's website.
