Price through out the year is almost constant.

Export of Indian banana is to limited countries mainly middle east due to unavaibility of transport protocol for sending by sea to long distant countries.

Payment problem in Iran have affected the exports decline.

Production of Potato is round the year.

Export affects mainly due to the domestic and International price fluctuations, absence of transport protocol and requirement of pest free zones asked by few importing countries.

Problems/Issues no. 2 Lack of export oriented production, farmers mainly producing for domestic market and mostly linked to MSP.

Present Status The extension work is carried out by State

Agriculture Departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendra

(KVKs) / State Agriculture Universities mainly caters to domestic market requirements. The export focus is required to be given.

Action Proposed APEDA is working closely with Ministry of Agriculture.

APEDA has entered in to an MOU with NCDC for organizing the supply chain of agri cooperatives for ensuring export oriented production. Similar MOUs are being signed with SFAC and NABARD. The cooperatives, FPOs to be formed by NCDC, SFAC and NABARD in the production clusters would be imparted necessary trainings.

Action Proposed Stringent monitoring is required and only the registered pesticides should be allowed to be used. Farmers to be educated in Good Agriculture Practices (GAP)

1. Only 5 label claims registered for Pomegranates.

2. No new label claims come over many years and existing chemicals used are not on label claim. This violates importing country norms even when farmers have followed all recommendation of NRC.

3. Following 5 pesticides approved for pomegranate as per latest database.

4. Not a single insecticide has a label claim registered.

5. This is compared to 56 approved chemicals by NRC solapur for pomegranate.

Post harvest infrastructure gaps in the states

Present Status In all the states, there is a gap between the required and available infrastructure in terms of capacity of pack houses, cold storages, refer vehicles, ripening chambers etc.

Action Proposed 1. Under Agri Export Policy, APEDA has prepared the draft export action plans for all states so far. The action plan for the state of UP, Maharashtra have been vetted by respective state government.

2. APEDA conducted a study through Price Water House for 7 potential states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for accessing infrastructure requirement.

3. Logistic division DOC is conducting a study through Delloite for assessment of required logistics infrastructure in the country. The study report will include financial implications and to be published shortly.

Absence of new plant varieties is affecting the export oriented production

Present Status The status of some of the exportable agri produce facing problems of low productivity, frequent attack of pest and diseases hampering export growth some of the examples for varietal requirements are for following fruits and agriculture produce and their suitable processed varieties: -

Grapes, Oranges, Apples, Gherkins, White onion, Potatoes, Tomatoes

Action Proposed Respective National Research Centres (NRCs) needs to import required variety in consultation with exporters and APEDA. The trials would be required to be

conducted for propagation and multiplication of the importing variety for commercial production.

Infrastructure gap at various airports/ Sea Ports/

Supply Chain

Present Status Certain bottleneck viz CPC, Mechanized Roller Bed Storage, High Penetration Xray, New Bulk

Containers dolly, mechanized work station with

hydraulic and weight verification, container scanner have been identified as gap at various airports.

Infrastructure gaps also exists in respect of Sea ports, inland ports.

Action Proposed Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Port authorities to study the issues identified and take appropriate action by providing necessary infrastructure in a time bound manner.

Need for sea protocol in respect of certain products Present Status Export of fresh produce such as mangoes, pineapple,

citrus fruits etc. gets affected to long distant countries in the absence of established sea protocol.

Action Proposed APEDA got the sea protocol developed for Nendaran Banana through NRC Banana, Trichy.

A project has been taken up by APEDA with IIT, Kharagpur for development of protocol for mangoes and identified vegetables using informatics and artificial intelligence.

Similar efforts to be carried out by respective NRCs for the export of other potential fruits

APEDA organised  first ever Conference cum International Buyer Seller Meet at

Imphal,Manipur. Progressive farmers / grower groups from NER also participated

in the event and interacted with the exporters.

BSM on Indian Food & Beverage products was organised with Consulate General of India in New York last week. Similarly, a BSM was organised in association with TPCI at Indo Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Toronto.

promotion of Pineapple from Tripura and Mangoes from Lucknow

Trial shipment of Kew pineapple from Tripura to Dubai was sent by sea transit in reefer

Container.

An Export Promotion Program for Fresh vegetables (Okra, green chilli) had been launched in Varanasi

district cluster recently enabling the export of shipments to Gulf countries & EU.

Trial shipment of Chausa variety of Mango (10 MT) from Lucknow to Italy was sent by sea.

Usually, mangoes are exported from Uttar Pradesh to Europe by Air which involved high costs.

(Exporting mangoes to Europe through air cargo costs Rs 120 per kg against Rs 28 per kg when sent via sea route).
