Abstract - The paper documents the knowledge of some important ornamental flowering plants of Khandwa City, Madhya Pradesh. In the present investigation, seasonal trips were made to collect the plants from different sites of City of Khandwa. The ornamental flowering plants were observed and some of the species with medicinal as well as ornamental importance were selected. Proper field note of each specimen was recorded and their identification was done by given botanical name, habit information, common name, locality, habitat and medicinal uses. 40 species belonging to 30 genera and 21 families were studies.

1 INTRODUCTION

Ornamental flowers, of all Nature's creative’s are likely man's closest friends. Flowers for the use in daily life are produced for the decorations in festivals of both rooms and guest for important ceremonial presentation for needs of personal cleanliness, for the decoration of toms and finally for religious sacrifices and funerals. The ornamental plants also plays an equally important part in cleansing urban air, cooling the atmosphere around us and assisting with use and recycling of vital essential elements in the soil, providing nutrition to bacteria, fungi and micro-organism living in the soils (Singh et al., 2021). These plants also play crucial role in cooling the atmosphere through the evapo-transpiration process on their leaves and other parts thereby preventing health hazards (Omokhua, et al., 2002). Reported that in many societies some flowers are associated with specific events (Acquaach, G. 2002).

The wide biodiversity in flowers

viz.

shape, size, type, colours and divine fragrances help us combat stress, sooth the pain, help us forget for moments all the bad and scary things this world presents us with on a daily basis. In this paper a comprehensive account of trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers, creepers and taxonomic groups that share characteristics such as bulbous plants, cacti, succulents, and their allies, bamboos, grasses, sedges as well as ornamental water garden plants are given Table 1.

2 MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study of ornamental plants of Khandwa City has done in this way.

Study site: The study was undertaken at different sites located in Khandwa City, Madhya Pradesh. is located at

21.8314° N, 76.3498° E

and has a geographical area

2,396 sq.km.

The climate of the area is generally temperate, semi- humid characterized by cold winter with mild summer and moderate rainfall.

Survey: Different sites and localities of Khandwa City were visited during the course of investigation. 40 ornamental plants of economic importance were surveyed from different sites. This site are Smt. Anima Obeja House, Dr. Suche Gupta House, Shree Malviya House, Dr. Obeja Prakash Hospital, Shree Alok Sethi House, Vipul Computers House, Shree Chetan Soni Hariganj, Dr Sharad Harne, CMO house and Dr. Sandhya Gandhe House. The photography of all flowering plants was done Figure 1.
